There is one person I will not hate if they do decide to not heed my call to BOYCOTT THE MELVINS SHOW on Oct. 13, 2006 at the Living Room in Providence RI. That is Jonathan W. He is a fan and should over-ride this and go.

Everyone else, should think hard about what I am about to write.

Back in the day, Arab on Radar was very excited to play a "big" show with the Melvins at the Living Room. A few of us worked wt that place for brief stints and really hyped the show up bigtime to Mr. Randy Hein (RIP). Randy as a result, took our word and gave the MELVINS everything they demanded in thier rider - including beer, a compelte catered dinner for all thier crew and themselves, it was literally a room full of stuff, Randy shelled out major cash for it...

Long story short, and hour before thier sound check (apx. 6 PM) thier manager calls from Boston trying to shake Randy down for an extra 1000.00 to play. They debated for a while and Randy could not pay them what they asked. Then they moved on to the reason - they didn't want a local band on the show, they did not want to pay the local band yadda yadda...
They basically did not want to play...

So, they screwed everyone, did not show up, and continued on thier tour.

We in AOR put up a sign letting fans know that they weren't playing. About 250 people looked at it, turned around and left. We played to about 50 people... bad show.

Thats do-able, OK.

BUT.

The next week my homie from Atlanta (thier next stop on tour) mailed me a clip from their local Phoenix type of newspaper, I think it is called the Atlanta Weekly or something like that...

It contained an interview with King Buzzo, that stated the reason they cancelled Providence was because the club owner "did not support local bands"... ! You can find all of this online if you care to do some googling or other forms of websearching.

SO that was BS, we e-mailed thie management and threatened to kick thier asses if they came back... which (funny enough) kept them out of Providence for many years. no lie...

They apparently did come back later with HELMET and basically snag stupid showtunes and fuckedoff the whole show.

in a nutshell, they absolutely suck, the music, the hairdos, talentless cronies and jaded old farts.

I call on all people, who care about local music to pass on this show...

I find it personally repugnant that anyone in Providence would BOOK this shit knowing the score, but someone did, and ya know... someone always does. It is like being an intern for Antonin Scalia, theres always some poor schmuck that will sell out all principles and do it... sad, truely sad.

But please do not go.

I can offer a free 7'' (made in mexico) to anyone who seriously can convince me that they were going and decided not to due to this call to boycott.

This is the first and probably only boycott I would ever contemplate, but we need to make it not profitable to screw over bands and awesome club owners like Randy was.

I loved that guy and miss him much.

Melvins Schmelvins (you can download every good album of thiers for free easily, they suck live, they have sucked for years, give it up)

thanks.

I find melvins dumpster diving too.

Wouldn't it be better if a punch of people went and punched the Melvins in the face?

toggletoggle post by BobNOMAAMRooney nli at Oct 1,2006 7:04pm
For those not in the know "a punch" is an old english term for a group of people consisting of more than 20 people but less than 42 people.

toggletoggle post by Anti-Racism  at Oct 1,2006 7:37pm
Raping local bands is a form of discrimination. I've been boycotting the Melvins since their first useless indie rock drone album. Maybe a group should go, abduct them and anally rape them.

first off, Arab on Radar is the superior shit. I listened to Queen Hygiene making breakfast yesteday.

second, Melvins are NOTORIOUS for this. My old band was scehduled to open for them at TT The Bears' in '92, and they blew it off (TT's is pretty small, I should've anticipated that, but I was a but wee lass)

third, I hadn't really planned on going anyway.

Kurt Cobain was nicer than the Melvins.

I used to be obsessed with the whole Seattle scene and bought almost everything that came out on Sub Pop since they both started, and yea, the Melvins were never good. They've always been one of those bands that shithead critic-type losers think you HAVE to like in order to like something else. Idiots think they started some new style of sludge stuff, but they were just hideously ugly guys so people that couldn't get laid said they were great and it just snowballed. But they've just always been shitty.

Support local music.

1. Arab on Radar put me through some pretty torturous sets. And I don't mean that in a cute way.
2. If this is true fuck the Melvins for life because those clowns always screamed about how they were better people than all the rock star prima-dona bands out there. Another big mouth band that was full of shit. No big surprise. *cough*bane*cough*

Love the Melvins, and this sounds like normal Melvins behavior. Also, about 99% of their fanbase have nothing to do with RTTP, so this boycott fails instantly.

Whoever wrote this is a selfish prick

Way to think of the other bands that are playing and how this might affect them

One band is from Iceland, if I am not mistaken. I'm sure they'd be stoked to get fucked out of an audience because some promoter had a miscommunication with a band that years later was never resolved in a mature way.

Ghostigital

In Cod We Trust

Einar Örn – Vocals
Curver – Electronics, Tape Delays, Gadgets

It seems that when Einar Örn (former SUGARCUBES and K.U.K.L. front man) enlists another artist to work with him, it’s like collaborating with the Cubists, or the Dadaists in musical form. His partner in this case, with the movement named Ghostigital, is Curver. An Icelandic multi-instrumentalist, Curver’s background is as eclectic as the music he dabbles in: a producer, artist, a remixer (Sigur Ros) , a music teacher. Ghostigital’s Les Demoiselles de Avignon is named In Cod We Trust. Welcome! You’re really in for a fantastic treat.

For those new to the sonic world of Ghostigital, you should know that there doesn’t seem to be any floor plan to the music, even though there is architecture. It’s best you just relax, release preconception, don’t think or analyze too much. Here’s an idea: let us do the analyzing so the thoughts don’t get in the way of your listening experience. Know the music will come to you the way it wants to; you are not in control. Often it seems that neither is Einar. His vocal tone evokes the everyday man hung on an everyday line and pushed to extremes, but extremes that for the moment are livable and sometimes amusing. His rap does not spew harsh violence but the cool cosmically comic fright-journalism of breakfast in workaday hell.

Unmistakably Icelandic, their subjects could have multiple national origins – exchange codfish for… well, anything and you get the meaning. In 1940s America, “fish” was slang for the dollar and there, the joke of the album is easily apparent. Whether Einar is commenting on what he sees while standing in line at the grocery store, men who are fixated on fish or seeing the Northern Lights through a headache, his songs are still stories of relationships with average living, a lifestyle that merges the mundane with the sublime.

While the genre-mashing In Cod We Trust pulls the aesthetic rug out from under a listener’s expectations, one should not fear that they are lost in a pop music sea. Ghostigital fashions an aural forest of industrial, Bel Canto, Jazz, Rap, ‘80’s New Wave, and Electronic music– just not necessarily in that order or only at one time.

I don't know what that means, so I'm going to drink me a budweiser beer and sit back and realize you have no say in Melvins thread.

Why? The Melvins say they aren't rock stars because THEY AREN'T. They even talk shit about rock star bands because the Melvins are so far from that.

The tour before the Jello Biafra tour, they toured in a Lincoln Continetal? (I could be wrong about the car and model, but it was a boat). With A U-Haul trailer attached because they didn't have enough money to rent a van for the tour.

The one time toured in just a van because they couldn't get a trailer, too. They spent the whole tour borrowing gear from local openers.

Every band who's been on tour has had to be a pain in some promoters ass at some point. Get over it, quit crying. Maybe you should go write in your blog.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Oct 16,2006 4:20pm
What the hell do I care if the Melvins toured in a Lincoln Continental, a ford Escort, the Oscar Meyer weiner car, or a blimp? They couldn't get a trailer. Boo hoo. They've toured internationally, played Ozzfest, and probably get paid more per show then any of my shitty bands have ever made total. If they fuck that up that's their problem. If I don't like some pube from the internet's favorite band that's their problem. If they screwed over Arab on Radar that's Arab On Radar's problem. And if I want to compare one bullshit band to another than that's Bane's problem. Wahh.
