Suffocation dont belong on this bill. They should open for Cannibal Corpse when they come around on a Headlining tour to support KILL.

if hope dies: I missed them.

leeway: so how many years ago did they break up? I have an LP that pre-dates me getting into thrashy cross over hardcore-metal. The music sort of reminds me of the life of agony old songs that people love. It could have just been the room though. The front of the crowd must have an average age of 15. Very young crowd. Hell, most of them weren't even alive when born to expire came out on VINYL! When the singer traveled down to the crowd, no one seemed to know the words to sing along.

suffocation: I agree, they don't really fit on this show, but then again, a thousand 15 year olds enjoying themselves while a legendary DM band plays? sound sweet to me! it seems they always make a good show of it no matter where they are or who they are playing too. The bassplayer was still laid up with a broken foot. Unlce frank went down into the crowd three times.. Their set was sort of short. They packed in the songs, 2 new songs, and played 6 total in under 20 minutes.

it dies today: so this is basically the band that most people came to see.. I guess.. There were people who actually left after their set. That was weird. They have a new CD coming out. After hearing a few of the track live, they's definitly gone back to the tr00. The music is a lot heavier. Still, the crowd packed in more for their boy band songsm but I have hope for the new CD. Definitly not the same band I saw 3 years ago in a tiny VFW.

poison the well: weird... The bassplayer for candiria was playing for them. He played exactly like he does in candiria. I felt like I was being molestered. it was funny to see frank mullens on the side of the stage really getting in to the set. This is probably the most hooked up bands I know. All the guitars/bassplayers switch off instruments atleast twice. As a whole, their set was pretty decent. There was only sing-songy part. And in the end, all the kids in the crowd stop being mosh-wesome and started to mass in the center of the crowd singing along. they play some guitar whispy things that I really like. don't tell anyone that though, please.

vision of disorder: VOD.. Oh man.. They played probably the last Rat show I ever attended. This was right after the s/t CD came out. I'm pretty sure I was party to interviewing them too, but I don't remember. I was right after I started doing the RTTP radio show. My have both I and they changed. this was back in the dred days. Their s/t CD is still one of my favorites. Their other albums on the other hand... Ugh! the song they started out with was awesome. Then they went into nu-metal tracks. I wasn't until the 5th that they played another good song. They played mostly newstuff from that pont on. They had two movie guys filming for them. It was kind of annoying cause they were always there up in someones grill. karen and I had a chuckle when one of the dudes tripped. they ended the set with choke. even though they played a bunch of tracks that I didn't like, I was worth driving all the way down here just to see the 4 good songs. when they ended, a bunch of kids in the front were yelling VOD for like 5 minutes into the camera.

wait wait wait, VOD is playing shows? thats pretty awesome... unless they mostly do new stuff haha.

try dealing with multiple film crews who get to film entire band sets and are on an elevated platform and dealing with 40 other photographers so you can't move much and then have film people in the way

now that's a true PITA

PRECISELY why I insist on guillotines being installed at the entrace/exists of venues - an idea I birthed while eyeballing the crowd at the JFAC / FASSW / Cattle Decapitation / Misery Index show in Hamden, CT a few months back.

*looks down scornfully from the lofty perch of his grand dopethrone*

You're not helping the "VEGETARIANS ARE NOT HOMOS" cause there, Rev.

I showed up during VOD. I missed the first part of the set cause all I saw was old songs from the self titled, 2 songs from imprint and they closed with choke.

They must realize that from bliss to devestation sucks.

Shadows fall - they played mostly new songs. I was bored since I dont like anything they did after Of One Blood. I left before the last song.

the singer of leeway is skinny

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 13,2006 10:37am
he is wicked wicked skinny. and he moves so oddly around the stage.

toggletoggle post by ninkaszi at Aug 13,2006 2:19pm
leeway fucking ruled. it was cool to see suffocation after them so i could leave right after. one of the worst crowds i have ever seen.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Aug 13,2006 3:14pm
i wonder why zao didn't play... but they are back next month with throwdowwn poop

toggletoggle post by cfhrules at Aug 18,2006 6:48pm
shadows fall kicked some serious ass they fucking rock

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 19,2006 12:01pm
shadows fall: at this point, this highly successful western mass band is sitting rather pretty. With their huge signing, huge following, and (most important to a show), they have a huge repituare of music to pull from. I looked down the set list and there was so much material. I forget that they now have 4-5 full lengths under their belt. With that, they are no longer stuck in the somber eyes days. most of their songs where all newer. the singer for Leeway came out on stage and sang a song with them.

I am so glad I went to see Sodom and Immolation at BB Kings down the block. Suffocation should have been the top band on the bill. Ridiculous.

I was talking about the show in NY on the 10th.
