So I just moved from the Boston area to San Francisco yesterday, sittin in the shithole hotel room in the middle of Little Saigon/fucking spooksville that'll be my home for 2 months wonderin what I'll do with myself and I find out GODLESS RISING are playing here TONIGHT!! I'm gonna feel right at home, hahaha

if anybody who reads this knows anything about the metal scene here, the clubs to check out or the bands to look up, write it up...I know fucking nothing

I have a few friends that live in San Fran, I will find their myspace links and post them here later.

i know a dude who moved out there too...don't have his myspace link offhand though

toggletoggle post by AUTOPSY_666   at Aug 9,2006 7:35pm
I think there's a club called The Pound there.

toggletoggle post by Dar at Aug 9,2006 7:47pm
Somebody mentioned The Pound to me...sounds a bit P-Town though, don't ya think. I walked by the Warfield earlier, where that Slayer DVD was filmed.
Godless Rising is playing the Elbo Room.

Anyway thanks Dwyer, sorry I won't be around to pick up all your cds and then try to force 'em back in the wrong way...oh, and clean you out of Mercyful Fate/King Diamond

just read the fine print, elbo room 21+...so nevermind, i guess
why didn't I move to Montreal?

toggletoggle post by AUTOPSY_666   at Aug 9,2006 9:20pm
Do you have a myspace page, Dar?

I just restocked some MF/KD too, bummer.

toggletoggle post by Dar at Aug 9,2006 9:41pm
yeah, http://www.myspace.com/worthashot

I guess it's due for a serious updating these days
checked the pound, it actually looks pretty sweet...Deeds of Flesh/Vile friday, "summer metal showcase" sunday...HIMSA tonight..not so sure about that one

toggletoggle post by nate   at Aug 9,2006 9:49pm
the pound is one of the best "metal" clubs in SF, from what I've heard.

toggletoggle post by B at Aug 9,2006 10:08pm
the pound is a stupid club full of big meat head bouncer dudes with watered down drinks, that's waaaaayyy out of the way from anything in a sketchy part of town. 'Savage productions' puts shows on there... try to shows put on by them as they constantly rip off the bands that they put on bills. (i've lived in oakland for 5-6 years, currently elsewhere until next year).

Great places to see shows in SF: Bottom of the Hill (16th), El Rio (Mission), Hemlock (small and bitchin'), Thee Parkside (near Bottom of the Hill), Slim's...

Check out this site:

http://jon.luini.com/thelist/date.html

It will have pretty everything you hoped for. If you're in the East Bay, check out warehouse shows in Oakland, put on by the Pyrate Punx- just across the Bay Bridge. Berkeley is full of dumb ass college kids and hippies, but the legendary Gilman street is okay (no drinking and full of 12 yr olds, but great bands)

Some great Bay area bands to see: Walken, Hightower, Saros, Damnweevil, Ludicra, Asunder, Brainoil... ugh, way too many.
have fun, great place to live if you love metal.

yeah, from what you say and what I just read, it sounds a lot like the Palladium in Massachusetts...except maybe with better sound.

That site looks perfect, thank you so much for posting, gonna dig in and check out the bands you mentioned. as far as college kids and 12 year olds, I am now the former and as some people here know, do pretty well with the latter so that sounds good too, hahaha

toggletoggle post by B at Aug 9,2006 10:41pm
yeah, not to dis on college kids...i went to college in SF. The pound is totally like the palladium, but seems a million times worse, because so many other better places are around. just my advice to avoid it.

That show tonite was going to be at the elbo room. any 'Lucifer's Hammer presents' show is awesome, just that most are at bars. For the under 21 shows, Gilman street is awesome...either way its great, you can drink outside and avoid the berkeley cops. always fun. Pyrate punx (east bay punks) shows are the way to go for all ages .. 'Burnt Ramen' is a warehouse in Richmond, you can take the BART there, 'Hazmat/ Death by excess' warehouse is in downtown oakland- both are great underground warehouse spots. meet up with some local metalheads and they'll tell you where to go. I'd help more, but I'm out east till later this year.

Aaahh more great info. When I posted here I didn't think anybody'd actually have a clue, haha. I'm kicking myself for being just under 21; I missed half the good shows in Boston, and it looks like it's gonna be the same here. From what you've shown me so far it looks like there's a really thriving scene here, though. I had been afraid that at least all of the bigger tours just go through LA and that's it, but it doesn't seem like that's the case at all...plus, a true underground. Lot to look forward to!!!

when I was out there with carina, there was nothing.

toggletoggle post by Aegathis nli at Aug 10,2006 12:21am
Testament usually plays at the Pound alot, cause theyre apparently too old to go out and actually tour the US any more.

toggletoggle post by Dar at Aug 10,2006 12:46am
Yeah, apparently I missed Testament by like a week. They're the one really big thrash band I haven't seen that I want to see, but hopefully they'll come again. Also, hey, thanks for the encouragement Rev!!!

I tried finding a show out there both times I went out there (and was old enough to go to a show). the first was july 2001. the second was july 2005. the first time all there was were raves. the second time there was nothing until the day we left and then the taste of silver played.. I think judas priest was the same day.

well, there is stuff to do everywhere. hell, you're young, make a scene out there.

toggletoggle post by AUTOPSY_666   at Aug 10,2006 6:01am
I saw WALKEN once and HIGHTOWER twice, once last week with DEMASSEK.
