should have been marked news.

sounds kick ass! at least the first track.

toggletoggle post by Ryan_M at Aug 4,2006 8:52pm
i listened to about half of it, maybe the first four songs....it's not bad, but i wouldn't buy it. south of heaven and reign in blood are the only two slayer albums i really like.

toggletoggle post by kevord  at Aug 4,2006 9:04pm
I really like Flesh storm and Consfearacy. Why did they release Cult as the first single? It's one of the worst songs on the album.

toggletoggle post by xanonymousx nli at Aug 4,2006 9:16pm
maybe cause its what the record company thought would sell the most $ or get all the "hot topic" kids into slayer?

Ummm...Hell Awaits??? HELLOOOOOOOO!! *S*

toggletoggle post by maslayer at Aug 4,2006 9:22pm
easily the best production since Seasons...you can hear it in the guitar tone and the drum mix...i think this is a great disc from what i have heard so far!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 4,2006 10:00pm
why are all slayer disc (since the 90's) only 1/2 good?

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Aug 4,2006 10:06pm
Exactly. The promo tracks were pretty weak, the other tracks are much better, but still nowhere near exciting as their 80s stint (up to Seasons).

toggletoggle post by sinofangels-ray  at Aug 4,2006 10:51pm
the songs dont mactch up to the song titles.....only reason i know is i heard some of the new slayer on the BBC

I think this is as exciting as the 80's...let's face it they're 40+ now. To be writing this kind of material 20+years later and still be coherent to thrash metal is impressive and STILL blows away 95% of other stuff out there. They'll never recapture Hell Awaits or Reign in Blood, we know that...but they do too. I think this needs to be checked out again before they are judged and sentenced as I think it's the best cd since Seasons...really if you listen closely, it's not that far from that disc

sounds pretty lame...

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Aug 5,2006 1:21pm
i wouldnt go buy it but i actually like it so far

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Aug 5,2006 1:54pm
what stops people from ripping this off myspace? its the whole album and its not the worst quality...

i dont like it better than Divine Intervention, but yeah I agree it sounds pretty awesome.

SLAYER is the best band ever. Anyone who doubts this will burn in Hell with QUORTHORN!

I can't agree, there are other bands who are 40 years old now and have continued to evolve their songwriting and still put out great records, some of which eclipse their old material. I mean, fuck, the new Motorhead album is perfection! But I don't think this Slayer disc is even remotely impressive.

Better than anything since Seasons in the Abyss? Possibly. But that's not saying much. This definitely doesn't blow away 95% of other metal releases though. There are some solid thrash songs on this disc, but it's really just going through the motions. Not one of these songs says to me "I have to hear that one again right now!" I can name probably 100 records this year I like better. And I'm not kidding. Of course that's me, and I listen to most metal genres without prejudice (apart from the obvious), but I'm just saying. That should never be the case with Slayer. Slayer used to put out album after album that was fresh, evil, and original. This just sounds tired to me.

Now, even though I'm the devil's advocate here, I don't hate the album, I thought it would be much worse after hearing the promo tracks. But everything about it to me is 'meh'.

toggletoggle post by maslayer at Aug 6,2006 10:53am
then we agree to disagree on this one *S*

toggletoggle post by pam   at Aug 6,2006 11:07am
I'm listening now and this is way better than I had anticipated.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Aug 6,2006 12:42pm
wow, I was expecting this to be something that I would go so far to even avoid hearing (a la God Hates Us All), but this isn't bad at all.

toggletoggle post by Dar at Aug 6,2006 12:54pm
hard to decide how I feel about this one
for better or worse, God Hates Us All was one of the first real metal albums I owned (definitely the first Slayer) when I was about 15 and I remember it then had a huuuuuge impact, I'd be like "he puts the bible in a pool of blood??? whoa, coooool"

now if I listen to this and then listen to GHUA this is without a doubt much better, but I still can't bring myself to care at all. Slayer just isn't exciting anymore. Regardless, I'm sure that there's some kid picking this up in the mall listening to Cult's chorus and going "whoa, coooool"

toggletoggle post by Dar at Aug 6,2006 12:56pm
or maybe that part of Eyes of the Insane where he squeals "Hail Satan!!"
even better hahahaha

toggletoggle post by the_taste_of_cigarettes  at Aug 6,2006 12:57pm
I am digging this and I don't like Slayer

I might even pick this up

toggletoggle post by the_taste_of_cigarettes  at Aug 6,2006 12:58pm
and the solos make some sense now

as opposed to just dudes hitting random notes and then dive-bombing the floyd rose

toggletoggle post by Dar at Aug 6,2006 1:00pm
Oh the tracklist is totally fucked here, I guess that goofy Hail Satan squeal is really Skeleton Christ...shows how much attention I've actually been paying to this shit

I kind of liked it when they did that...one of the first metal bands to use discordant elements in their songs, a practice that is now commonplace.

Ya..............................

Not so good.
Im upset.

Exactly!@!!!!!!!!!!\m/
I like you more and more DHTH.

toggletoggle post by secthammer at Aug 7,2006 1:28am
it's not as bad as i expected, but it doesnt have the same hooks that really catch your attention as with the older slayer material. And i think i heard a couple of breakdowns :( although hard to tell because it was just plain boring so it kinda lost my attention.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Aug 7,2006 3:03am
There are definitely some very basic breakdowns with a weak note selection, but then again, Slayer pretty much invented the metal breakdown.

toggletoggle post by soloman   at Aug 7,2006 9:13am
sounds pretty good.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Aug 7,2006 11:04am
there are a few token terrible moments, but I don't hate it.

toggletoggle post by eddie  at Aug 7,2006 5:38pm
i really like the first song

toggletoggle post by WhyamIandasshole nli at Aug 7,2006 5:47pm
Its better than I expected after hearing Cult which is horrendous. Evolving musically hasent exactly been Slayers MO over the years. They've pretty much just stuck to there guns and played as loud and as fast as they know how which I fully endorse.

toggletoggle post by KillerKadoogan   at Aug 7,2006 6:33pm
My brother just informed me that there's a review in today's Herald that calls it "better than Reign in Blood"...

I wouldnt call Christ Illusion awesome.Theres 3 or 4 shitty songs on it.But its the best they've done since Divine Intervention.Took them long enough!!!

toggletoggle post by pam   at Aug 8,2006 12:50pm
I dig it. This is undeniably a step up from the last two albums! I can't be anything but happy about that.
