I just got the email from Bernie about the setlist , load in and all that jazz, with the little note at the bottom about havin the money from the ticket sales ready at load in. Outa curiosity, has any one sold all their tickets? We were supposed to sell 50, and he told me on the phone a few weeks ago we wouldnt be playing if we didnt sell that many. Ive had a bunch of people tellin me not to worry though, and that wed be able to sell the rest of the tickets at the venue, despite the fact Bernie says it isnt allowed.

As it stands I will be making a large withdrawal from the bank tomorow and being out side selling the rest of the tickets we have to make up for the difference

As far as I know, you're 'suppose' to sell 25 tickets, and for the other 25 you get a percentage of the money from those. I may be thinking of a previous deal we've had though, so don't quote me on that. We've never really worried about selling all the tickets and have never gotten turned down to play so I wouldn't worry about it Anthony, and if something happens, get Kok to straighten em' out for ya.

And Sean, I don't believe any of us know what the deal is for Saturday though I would expect him to be more leaniant towards the bands based in MA.

We got the same deal as HCN, are on 1st, and have had to sell a bunch of tickets in the past.

I think it helps the fans out if you save them the $5 at the door by selling tickets to them. It's one of the reasons I went on a whim and emailed porphyria telling them 'em to come to our show yesterday to sell tickets to our fans who wanted to go. I figured it would allow them to get rid of tickets and save our fans money by gettin them in advance. They didn't show or reply (no offense taken), but next time I will either get tickets or post to all bands involved who still have tickets.

Alright last minute transportation issues on our end, any body willing to lend a drum set for the show? It doesnt look like the drummer is gonna make the 4 o clock load in with all his gear, and ill be kinda low on time to run out there and get it all for him.He usually just plays on a 5 piece kit with a shit load of cymbals. He'll be bringing him double kick pedal with him for sure.

That order doesn't make sense since we (LAZ) and HCN share a drum kit. We'll work that out tonight. Yeah we were supposed to sell 50 tickets, but alot of our friends are out of town, etc. I don't care, he can give us an earlier time slot -- it would make more sense for us to play after HCN and before Coffin Birth, just for the drum set thing.

And yes, pay to play is gay. I like to play Mark's (except for the TNT Security gayness) but this is the last time we agree to selling anything for any promoter. I'd rather be a crappy studio band than continue with this pay to play thing.

Anyway, this should be a great show. No, we won't be loading in at 4pm, since I leave work at 5pm and I know the other guys are in the same boat.

Sorry man, I can't speak for the brothers Pellerin. You would have to ask either Nick (LAZ) or Matt (HCN) -- they co-own the drum kit.

I've got a SWEET pay-to-play story.

So, when you play a certain venue in CT whose name I shall not mention, though one which has always treated us VERY well... when you're playing with nationals, you sell tickets... it's not a dick maneuver on the venue's part - it's more like "band order and what stage you play will be determined according to ticket sales" - fair enough. Viva meritocracy, right?

So...

I roll up nice and early for load in and I like to lollygag and wait on settling tickets so I can sell as many tickets as possible at the venue to people we don't know. It's a good deal - the tickets are always a few dollars cheaper than door price and it helps my band out.

EVERYBODY WINS, RIGHT?

Well... not this one day. A car full of the UGLIEST MOTHERFUCKERS I have ever seen in my life (two scummy dudes, two almost-females) pulls in next to my car. Easy.

Me: "Hey, you got tickets yet?"
Cretin 1: "No."
Me: "Cool - I got em cheaper than the door AND it helps my band out."
Cretin 2: "We're all set"

I proceeded to get a good buzz on, smoke a doob and played a SCORCHING set to a packed room that was way into us. Perhaps the spirit of Axl Rose circa '91 possessed me when I asked Tony if I could make a dedication for our last song.

Me: "This next song goes out to the ugly fucking cunts who parked next to me and wouldn't help out out and save themselves a couple bucks in the process. This song is normally called 'The Strangling of Beauty', but tonight, it's 'The Strangling of Ugly'. Get fucked."

After the set, I carried my gear out and pissed UP AND DOWN the car of the offenders, making SURE to get the driver's side window and a generous portion under the door handle. I then moved my own car to another spot in the lot.

Being in a band and afforded the luxury of re-entry, I enjoyed several more beverages and any time I had to pee, I simply went back out to the cuntwagon and took care of the remaining windows and door-handles.

I also instructed all my bandmates and friends present to do the same.

I'd like to think I got 'em good.

Quick note about Mark's Showplace: The one time we played there with a national (last September), we took the show based on Bernie's promise that we wouldn't be playing first. He told us that if we turned in money for twenty tickets, we would go on second in the line-up.

We show up, Bernie asks to have the agreed upon money turned in before doors open, which we do, then he disappears. A couple minutes later, the soundguy, with a huge stick up his ass, tells us we're playing first and to get onstage. We tell him our deal with Bernie but he doesn't give a fuck, and tells us that if we don't get onstage right away, we can't play.

Bernie stays out of sight for the rest of the night and avoids us. Then, days later, he writes an apologetic e-mail saying he'll totally make it up to us at another show with a national. We never hear from him again, though, and he doesn't even respond to an e-mail inquiry about us playing a show with a national a few months later.

Now the ticket money thing wasn't too big a loss, because we sold all but like $30 of what we turned in, but I just think that is such a dick move, and no band should have to deal with that kind of dishonesty.

That's our one experience working with Bernie. Be warned.

Mark's / Bernie have a real knack for trying to take the fun out of what should be a great show.

It'd be hilarious if they told Suffocation they couldn't play because they didn't sell enough raffle tickets.

Or that they have to open the show.
