So, my work put on an annual party...a kayaking trip.
41 ppl going down the pemigewasset, on a 10 mile ride.

With NO warning, 38 unexperienced kayakers, are thrust into class 2 rapids, with absolutely no training or any mention of 'rapids'

I have kayaked a bit and was picturing a nice calm float downriver.
This was not the case.

In my belongings, which were safely stowed in my camelback....

XD 40 cal handgun
wallet
keys
cell phone
digital camera
bag of schwag
glass peice
days supply of water
change of clothes
money
pack of smokes.

A good, survivalists list there yeah?

Yeah, NO.
going over.............'The Ledges'
Yeah.....Im like ...the what? ledges....?

yes the ledges......they took my body and belongings, along with my kayak and paddles and sucked them into a watery abyss.
I am pulled under this amazingly strong current to barely fend for my fucking life. As I am being swept literally 'down shits creek without a paddle' (or a boat, for that matter) I am thrust into several jagged rocks.....my legs took some NASTY hits. Luckily, I dont think I broke anything.

Needless to say, all of my stuff, 'safely' stowed away......WAS LOST.
Now, my legs are contused to the point that I can barely stand up, and Im out alot of $$ worth of shit.
Ok Im done.
That was my rant.

Let the police know.

You don't want a handgun washing up somewhere.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 25,2006 9:22am
Ya no shit.....I called them today.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 25,2006 9:23am
I really doubt itll be washed up anywhere...the place they were lost was very rocky, deep, and I think the weight of the bag will keep it under for quite a while

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Jul 25,2006 9:27am
wow..what's wrong with yer company that they'd do that? Are the employees going to get their losses back?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 25,2006 9:34am
some bear is going to be out there one fine day on the pemi. he'll be fishing for salmon and then BLAMMO!
No more bear and steven colbert will be a little bit happier.

You're probably right, and if it were going to wash up, by trhe time it does it probably won't function properly, but still.

Sucks that that shit happened. Was anyone else hurt?

the camera and the cell phone suck to lose the most, I'm going to get pottery wav and waterproof my phone.

Why'd you bring a gun to a company trip anywho? bears?

"they can smell the menstration!"

I assume you just carry it with you? or were you going to pursuade your boss to give you a raise or something?

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 25,2006 9:40am
Suc...My company was warned BEFORE anyone was in the water that it was prolly not safe....yet the insisted...unbeknownst to ANYONE until it was over...

Nic...I hope youre right...

Rev....thats the whole reason I broght it with me...Bears. So that would be pretty ironic....
Or does ironic mean made entirely of Iron????

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Jul 25,2006 9:51am
kok..yer company doesn't sound too bright...are they gonna pay for yer losses? I hope so...fuxxors

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 25,2006 9:52am
Ya Nic...I am liscensed to carry, so I usually bring it with me...especially when Im 50 miles from home, in the Great Northern mountains of NH.
Its fucking desolate there. like really....no roads for miles.

They are the kings of stupidity....But I can almost guarentee, they will never do it again.
I dont know about being reimbursed, because I signed a waiver, so I doubt it.
Im just glad to be home and breathing.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 25,2006 9:54am
and yes...other people were hurt....a few sprained ankles/ cuts/ contusions and the sort...luckily, like I said, nothing too major.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Jul 25,2006 10:17am
Ever see fight club?
"life insurence pays off double if you die on a buisiness trip"

You have any other guns?
I got a couple, nothing to impressive, a 22 beretta with spinpression installed and carbon fiber grip, and a KPD.

I don't have a liscense yet though.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 25,2006 10:20am
Ya I have quite a few other guns, but no other handguns....looks like Im back in the market...
maybe Ill get a revolver this time.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Jul 25,2006 10:22am
I can't get a rifle here until I'm 21 I think.

I don't have a permit for the handguns either, my step dad just left them here when he moved out.

toggletoggle post by ShadowSD  at Jul 25,2006 10:34am
That sucks man. At least it was schwag that you brought so you didn't lose too much money in that area as well.

I don't know, I think Colbert would be very concerned with this being the first stage in bears arming themselves for a final showdown with humanity.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 25,2006 10:37am
yes...and very minimal at that...literally no more than .00005 g of schwag dust.
im not too worried about that.
I just talked to Campton pd and they seem to think it may be recovered.
I hope so, more sooner than later, and maybe the gun will still be ok.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Jul 25,2006 10:39am
Even if it's not, you can part it out and buy OEM parts for what's no longer functional. hopefully whoever found it had the sense to dry it off.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 25,2006 10:50am
hopefully the PD doesn't find a piece and the schwag with the gat.

shadowsd: it right to bare arms for bear arms with bear arms? oh no!

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Jul 25,2006 10:56am
Americans have a right to bear arms and arm bears and all point in between.

That's what I was thinking, cops can still be assholes and bust you for dust if they already have it in their hands.

Then again, maybe it's been underwater for long enough that you can't even tell what it is anymore.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 25,2006 10:59am
"oh man, is that oregano?"

bare bears!

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Jul 25,2006 11:00am
Its unlikely that water even got in the bag if it was wrapped.

toggletoggle post by ShadowSD  at Jul 25,2006 11:00am edited Jul 25,2006 11:02am
That's a good point.

Bears arming AND cooking themselves a pizza? Now powerkok has gone too far...

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Jul 25,2006 11:02am
but you just said th...

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 25,2006 11:05am
ya...water is definitley in the bag.....for sure.

At this point, the bag is 'missing' therefore, it is no longer my possession.
Anyone 'could have' found the bag/taken the bag/ put things in the bag.

Fuck bears.

Yo Kok, you can borrow my NEF .32 revolver if you want. It's really loud, blasts powder into your eyes pretty much every shot, and looks like a Saturday night special -- sweeeet.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 25,2006 11:46am
hahahaha I remember that thing....you still have that?!?!
Remember showing it to me at Kyles about 6 years ago?

In fact we were comparing guns when some 18 year old hippies came up to us, and were like...uhhhh.

Yeah, that's the one. I have a carry permit, but I usually don't bother. It stays in my closet loaded, about 3 steps away from my bed. It takes .32 H&R Mag rounds (hollow point of course). A nasty little piece -- and you CAN throw it in the river when you're done!

I've been meaning to get a new one -- Taurus used to make a nice little hammerless .38 5-shot that was friggin' tiny.

I don't keep ammo at my house, I don't use the gun for protection just target shooting, so I buy ammo when I need it and make sure there's none left. I don't want bullets and a gun in my house. 9 little brothers and sisters coming and going.

It's just me, my brother, and my sister, but my dad remarried 3 times, so there's lots of step brothers and sisters coming and going.
