jonbenet, the: (secondstage) they had some nice groovey parts. Reminded me of lords, coliseum, or one of those bands. They thanked me for listening to music that wasn't the same old breakdown. they had a lot of space in their music that I guess made them different.

embrace the end: (mainstage) duel singers, but they moved around so freaking much that I would get a focus lock on them and BANG! They would move before I snapped. This set was a lot better than the living room show they played. The sound guys were still working this out, but it sounded good.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 12:56pm
shoot to kill: (secondstage) there were a lot of people that knew this band personally so they had people pulling them into the crowd and stuff. This is the beginning of a wonderful day for sing alongs at the palladium's hardcore day.

at all cost: (mainstage) when I came down, the singer was running around with a tamborine. word on the steets is that he got it from the partridge family. Lots of energy on stage. The singer gave a piggy back ride to the guitar player. He also had a separate mic for clean singing set up, but it kept clipping.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 1:24pm
subzero: (secondstage) stuck in TX or something. Had to cancelled.

ion dissonance: (mainstage) geez, I ran in and right off hit a shot dead on of the singer in the foreground and the bassist jumping behind him. Their entire set was unrelenting. Their song are like a constant beatdown where the beat changes every 2 seconds. Kids were moving around the floor for them too.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 1:55pm
righteous jams: (secondstage) I ran in for their first song. It was their anthem, righteous jams. their wasn't as many people upstairs. The posi-kids that were there sang along, but OBW pulled some people away.

on broken wings: (mainstage) I came downstairs think "who's this deathmetal band" nope. Their newer music has gotten do heavy. They also play their stuff so thick in the low end. During the "heartless" part, a couple kids came over the barricade. During their set, they pimp COA hard so the minute they finished, everyone turned and ran upstairs.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Apr 29,2006 2:01pm
Haha well aaron ran up so he missed seeing everyone rush to the front of the barricade and the 3 crowd surfers trying to get on the stage

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 2:32pm
no, I saw that from the balcony. hey carina, look up at the red lights, I'm watching you... </ creepy>

colin of arabia: (secondstage) matt wasn't playing wth them it was some nice kid named eric or mark (i forgot, but he's like 16). they had 2 guest singers for them one was Justin (mind eraser) and another guy I didn't know. Colin shouted out to brockton and roman's. Chaos chaos chaos. COA sets are always awesome. I saw some guy in the back get dropped pretty hard, but the bouncers picked him up and he looked daze and confused. colin screamed into the faces of both bouncers. But then again, aren't we all? Who fucking cares? Who fucking cares.

into the moat: (mainstage) their set had some long and absolutely quiet breaks between songs. I've show these guys for years and there always seems to be new members. this is the first time I've seen them since they had a accident or fire or flood or hurricane. Whatever it was, it was some sort of natural or otherwise disaster. They still sounded tight, just like the CDs and heckled back at people in the audience who were yelling at them.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 3:41pm
first blood: (secondstage) when I heard the voice, I knew I knew it. After running in the room, I recognized the bassist from terror instantly. He had sung once before for terror at hellfest and he's got a really strong voice. I was actually glad when he left terror (or whatw ever happened) cause he makes a great front man for this band.

immolation: (mainstage) unholy cult of the undead. The whole front of the barricade was packed with the headbanging legions of metalheads who have come out for this fest. Amazing amounts of head. Carina turned to me and said "they sing that song you always sing to me" and then *bang* they went into no jesus, no beast. Their songs are long so they only got 4 or 5, but it was good to get that taste. Hit them up at death in the forest may 20th for more.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 3:43pm
spitfire: (secondstage) YEAH! If I'm not mistaken, that's the dude singer guy from scarlet. He rules. No space issues with that guy. He completely gets in everyone's face and did what he did when he was in scarlet, putting his hand up infront of the camera lens. These guys were awesome. The music strattles that fine line between noisiness, the_network and arty stuff like the chariot. I left right after the hand in front of my camera happen since he then dropped the mic on my crotch and I wasn't quite sure who should pick it up, but I surely wasn't going to do it.

fuck i totally slept in....

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 4:34pm
I'm not sure about evening tickets. they are running a bit early.

since the flood: (mainstage) I yelled out "play 24K and get off the stage" to luke, but he didn't hear me. they bounced all over the stage. At one point, I saw daveSTF fall down. they played new stuff from the new CD. I'm very excited to hear the new CD. that one track on the digital pack/reissue thing was so good.

scars of tomorrow: (mainstage) totally different members. Almost each time I see them. They sounded good, but I was a little preocupied while they were playing and went off to help carina/get air.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 5:29pm
human abstract, the: (secondstage) whoah, it's like I'm their official photographer. I've seen them so many times lately. I ran in run at the exact end of their set and saw the singer and the bassplayer shoving each other and falling off the stage.

sworn enemy: (secondstage) IMHO, this is a band that has refocused it's direction into positive areas. Their old stuff was so good. The big label stuff wasn't, but their new material? Forgeddaboutit. It's so different and so metal. there as a track on satillite radio that was so slayer. on stage, they keep it really real.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 5:42pm
skinless: (mainstage) people went apeshit for them. Horns, crowd surfing, etc.. It's so awesome that they did that well on their return to worcester. Noah cut his hair! At some point, jayskin got the crowd to push back and charge forward in a tsumani of destruction.

100 Demons: (mainstage) the rumor was that pete was going to come out and sing for them. Unfortunately he never showed up at the mic, just sat on the side of the stage. The new old singer filled the spot, but all the cleanish vocals had to be done by the two guitarists.

turmoil: (secondstage) funny that these guys reunited and started playing shows again only to be one up'd by 100 demons on the mainstage. The people that were there really got into it. They even played some new songs that they are going to release. Abacus has their discography on a 2xCD that I need to pic up.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 5:47pm
caliban: (mainstage) I ran in during their set and snapped a few pictures. I sang along to the only song that they played that I knew from shadow hearts and ran out. I've been into these german dudes for a long time now, but I can't get into the newer stuff so I didn't. I just ran upstairs.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Apr 29,2006 5:54pm
I saw a dwyer clone..as I was outside waiting to do a photoshoot with skinless, this guy who looked a lot like autopsy 666 came walking towards me..I was about to say hello when he stopped next to me and didn't say a word...so I turned to look at him but then I noticed his arms full of tattooes and I don't think john has any tats...I would have asked to take his photo but I had to go to the photoshoot...ah well..weird!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 5:56pm
full blown chaos: (secondstage) awesome dudes, awesome tunes. I've been seeing this guys since way back when my camera gear was subpar along with my camera skillz. Their set is nothing but a hardcore slug fest with metal riffage. when they play older track, the crowd goes crazy. they played some new material that quieted people down since they didn't know the words. After that, they went back to older stuff and I started getting elbows in the back again. before I had to leave, they started off a track for something new. the kick drums were so blasty that it was near pulverizing. I'm not sure what it was, but it had one of the fastest and heaviest breakdowns at the end. these guys are getting pushed big time, constantly touring, and getting put on huge tours. I have a feeling in a year, people are going to hate even more of their newer fans because of who some of their music is being marketed to (ie: hatebreed), but these guys are awesome and deserve the success.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 7:29pm
hate eternal: (mainstage) I looked and sae kevin talley behind the drum kit. His playing is very different from derek roddy. Derek is very techy, every beat has a fast attack and fast drop off. Talley, well, check out the early dying fetus CDs. they come in slower and have a slower drop off which makes for a heavier sound. whether it works on CD or not.. We will probably never know. The set sounded a bit muddy down there on the mainstage, but that's to be expected. Again, the metal band plays and it's all horns and head banging.

damnation ad: (secondstage) a loooooong time ago (multiple o's to denote years) a PR company from NY sent me on of their CDs. Honestly, I didn't know what to make of it. There were some good tracks and then some weird stuff. they had all the live weird stuff too. I except their set to be a lot more scary than it was. Still, seeing them makes me want to recheck out that disc.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 7:49pm
God Forbid: (mainstage) I only caught a few minutes of their set. Kids went apeshit for them. Lookss like their new CD has been well received too. The crowd was singing along to all their songs. The photo-pit got really crowded with all the photo people AND crowd surfers AND people catching the crowd surfers.

death threat: (secondstage) I don't kno how many times I've seen this band, but it's been a lot. From all their shows, they never cease to deliver for the crowd. The crowd up here was packed. I'm sure people got turned away from up there. the best thing about their set is how positive the crowd is. No fights, just people piling up, stage diving, etc...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 7:50pm
suffocation: (mainstage) yeah, they play two old songs right at the beginning. after that the hand-wave head-bang hatchet came out. and they played some of the new stuff, plus a track that I don't think I knew so it might not be released. frank said "one mor..." and the mic was cut out. The guy at the sound booth cut them off. Fortunatelly, they just looked confused, decided on a song and then played that one more song. I was typing why it was playing so I don't know which song it was. Glad they didn't get screwed.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 8:00pm
terror: (mainstage) with in the first note played on the stage sent a monitor right flying which I caught in the stomach and pushed back in place. There was a ton of surfers. A lot of the noob security guards were stressing about all the surfers. the singer, scott, went down into the crowd for all the "key" parts of their popular songs to let the kids sing along with him. Towards the end of their setm they played a new song from an upcoming CD, but ended with spit my rage and overcome.

toggletoggle post by insipidzombie  at Apr 29,2006 8:33pm

toggletoggle post by inject-now at Apr 29,2006 8:43pm

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2006 8:47pm
longer sets I think. suffocation got off when they were suppose to go on.

Overcast: (mainstage) the sound was much better and clearer here. Being able to hear the songs makes it easier to enjoy them. What was missing was the small club feeling and family love. So the previous set in that regards was so much better. the setlist and it's the same set list from the other show except I think (if memory serves me) that they cut two songs off the end and for indifference. I would have swarn they played in difference, but it think it was just me listenting to it during the week. The new #1 will be called "root bound apollo" and actually sounds like an early shadows fall song. it just needs the off-key melodic singing over it. I think that the dude that got "teabagged" at the other show was up on stage. during grifter, brian stay a float on people, continuing to sing even when he was side lined by a stage diver. he rolled around on top of the crowd, singing a lot of the time upside down and was eventually brought back to the stage, turned right side up and all while singing.

toggletoggle post by insipidzombie  at Apr 29,2006 9:43pm

Back at the hotel. Didn't stay for Arch Enemy because Angela is a talentless whore that looks like Golum and can't scream for shit....

Today was OK. Not many familiar faces, no one comes out for the fest anymore (not that I blame them). Today's highlight was Exodus, but they played NOTHING I wanted to hear. I could have come up with about 10 awesome setlists for them...I mean, you can't even throw me Toxic Waltz? However, they were still awesome.

Brian Fair hit me in the eye ball with a renegade dreadlock during Overcast's set. It hurt a lot. It stank of patchouli and schmetal.

I pulled off the ultimate tune-out during Chimaira. I was captured in a high-intensity game of Tetris on my cell phone and I was playing the Tetris song in my head while I did it. George apparently told me about some shit going down with the singer for Chimaira "killing" someone, but I didn't hear him...cause Tetris is awesome.

Hey Aaron, try and keep count of how many times Angela says "fuck", I dare ya.

Why isn't she fronting a "successful" metal band? Because she didn't have the oppportunity of sleeping with Michael Amott while Arch Enemy was looking for a new singer. (I like AE, but i just had to point that out) Also, Smite The Righteous is some sick shit, and Pam's a damn good vocalist.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Apr 30,2006 8:30pm
I'll be honest and say that I first heard Smite the Righteous live and I didn't like the overall product, just reminded me of too many swedish loving bands. But I did notice then and there that the drummer is amazing and Pam was really solid.

Then I listened to the recordings, literally minutes ago and I think I like them a lot more. And Pam's vocals are sick...honestly, her voice reminds me a little bit of the vocalist of The Esoteric...who I think was in Coalesce at one point. Not sure though.

I agree...Angela is a hack. And Arch Enemy was only really great up to Burning Bridges.

wow, why did I carry on so long about this.

exodus: (mainstage) man, that singer sure did look like the guys that says "NERDS" in the revenge of the nerds movies. His voice was so old school it was brilliant. I head some people like pam bitching about the selection of music and I didn't care. They played some old ones and the tracks off the new CD that I liked so I don't care.

chimaira: (mainstage) I was expecting kevin talley to be behind the drums, but he wasn't. I totally forgot that they got their original drummer back. His bassdrop was painful. Their lighting was nothing short of awesome seeing as it was set up in 20 minutes and was very blinding. It lead for some amazing backlighted shots. I'm not a chimaira fan to say the least. They must have thought people didn't like them too cause they brought out girls in chimaira-gear to dance and then do the vince neal thing with girls pawing at him from the side. phil from all that remains came out and joined them on stage for parts of a song. why don't I like chimaira? well... they do have some parts to their music that are kick ass, but they stray too far into nu-metal from the fear factory sounding music they make (oh wait... fear factory had like three numetal CDs). I like fear factory, but older stuff.

Arch Enemy: (mainstage) they had a TON of music on their set list. When they came out, the wireless mic kept cutting out (although I think it was just cutting out from the monitors). Angela threw kind of a fit on stage so they got her a wired mic which kept chripping loudly. I don't know if it was feedback or what. Also, there was no flash allowed. That sucked and made most of my pictures crap. Actually, it really pervs me when you see bands for YEARS and then suddenly, you can't use flash anymore (ie: nile and in flames). anyhow, I shot the first 3 songs and then listened to another song before departing the show to checking in to the hotel. not sure if this show ended better or not

So - I am getting the whole stereotype asumptions about mtv and being ‘trendy’. Well, I am a 39 year old female, listening to metal since 24 years. I am the old-school metal generation, going from Sabbath to Metallica, Slayer, Exodus to the Death Metal wave of the early 90ies. I am a huge fan of the first generation of Sweden Metal, bands like Dismember, Entombed, At The Gates and Carnage. This is why I followed Michael Amotts musical career. Carcass, Spiritual Beggars and Arch Enemy. I love all their albums, no matter who is the vocalist. And by the way, I despise the ‘new’ Headbangers Ball and its uncritical mainstream approach to this once so rebellious type of music.

As for your band Pam – I checked it out on myspace. 3rd rate At The Gates rip-off, just badly executed (very untight). You guys should learn to play your instruments first and write some original tunes, maybe then some label will be interested in you. Goes for the vox as well. I stopped counting the times YOU used the f-word in your lyrics. Very ‘classy’ indeed. And your looks. C’mon, you are a chubby, bland faced teenage girl. You shouldn’t point your fingers at anybody but yourself. And the way you talk about a woman you have never met in person makes you look even worse. Frustration and teenage angst are your motives. Trying to make yourself look better by putting others down isn’t working when you want to gain respect. It’s the lowest form of self-promotion.

Well, I will stop wasting my time on you. Grow up, become good at what you do and you will get recognition for this eventually. Angela Gossow started out in 1991 in an underground band – just like you. (you probably weren’t even born then). She has certainly paid her dues, being an active musician since 15 years. You have a long way to come, girl. But with your bitchy attitude you wont get far.

How I miss the times where metal fans were supportive of each other. Today, its all elbows, bitching, negativity and jealousy.

Tatiana

all other things aside here...Pam is not a teenage girl. I want to say mid-20s. Pretty much everything else is up to opinion, I guess.

that post is funny. pam, you should probably thank her since she underestimated your age by like 10 years.

toggletoggle post by stillborn at May 3,2006 8:57pm
I judged her from the way she is writing her posts.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 3,2006 9:08pm
she's completely childish, but I assure you, she is like totally OMG old. my gf and I even photographed her wedding. LOLzzz!j!!!!!j

Pam loves me.

Angela got together with Michael a year after she joined Arch Enemy. They are together since. That hardly makes her a whore. So, I guess Pam is married to one of the guys in the band, haha..

basically its pam and a bunch of her uncritical friends on this forum.. i get it. have a nice time bitching and backstabbing.. i am ouf of here.

wow..you're how old? and arguing on the internet?
give me a break...I can understand you like a band and it bugs you because people insulted a musician you respect, but coming on here and talking shit about someone who regularly posts on here won't get you anywhere. I've met angela a few times, taken her photo many times, posed shots and live shots, i think she's cool, but I know Pam a lot more and respect and care about her, she speaks her mind and i respect her for that.
also the way you worded certain things leads me to believe english is not your first language (not meant as an insult since english is not my first language)

ok i've typed enough and drank too much

stillborn, all you essentially did is exactly what you're trying to call pam out for, speaking your mind about someone you don't even know and making assumptions about their character

everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but it doesn't help to contradict yourself in the same breath

the thing with arch enemy is that they don't write particularly innovative music, it's just that a lot of younger kids are on their nuts because they're "technical" and have a female singer who can scream, so when something gets over-hyped and over-played as much as they are it leaves a lot of room for people to get annoyed

Yeah, but her band members are wearing THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and PANTERA shirts in their promo shots. Oh, and camo pants, hahaha.
