I don't believe I'll be making it this time around unfortunately. I wonder if there will be '700 people' there like last time.

Where are the replies to this thread? This forum is definitly not Old school!!!!! Ive noticed that more people here care about Opeth and Fintroll than Overkill. What the fuck is up with that? Are the majority of u 16-21?

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Feb 27,2006 2:30pm
so go somewhere else if you want 100% old school.

I'm a young overkill fan, but I gotta say, as musicians, Opeth are a gazillion times more talented than overkill and have much better written songs/lyrics. They are not as old as overkill but it doesn't mean they aren't a better band. There are plenty of shitty bands from the 70's 80's and it doesn't mean they are superior over bands from the 90's...

toggletoggle post by MetalcoreSUCKS at Feb 27,2006 2:36pm
When does talent matter in Metal? Gimme a break!!! It dont take talent to do do death metal grunts or scream like a maniac.Being better muscicians dont mean shit man!!! Take Dream Theatre for example, great musicicians but their music does nothing for me.Now look at the oposite,AC/DC with basic rock guitar riffsand simplicity. Now AC/DC is much more entertaining than Opeth or Dream Theatre.I just think it sucks that some of the younger metalheads wont give some old school metal a chance.Their missing out by not doing this.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 27,2006 2:41pm
i'm not that young (26 tomorrow), but i prefer opeth to overkill for some of the same reasons tom mentioned. i love old school metal. dio, mercyful fate, old megadeth, are some of my favorite bands. i don't listen to old school metal just to be old school. that's fuckin stupid. i listen to what i listen to because i like it. i don't care how "classic" it is or how forgettable a band might be in 10 years.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 27,2006 2:42pm
funny, in my book, you are a "young" metalhead since as you both are the same age.

Why are some old metal heads such weeners about being old school? Are you druggie? So you're saying it doesn't take talent to scream like an idiot like Bobby Blitz? Keep in mind I SAID I LIKE OVERKILL. I also enjoy AC/DC but I prefer to listen to music that challenges my ear that isn't as predictable. You apparently prefer to listen to simple minded music which is fine. But don't shit on music that is technical just because you can't comprehend it. Oh yeah, and again, I like overkill so I'm not missing out on anything. You have an opinion and I have mine. Quit being a turd now.

eh, 10 years from now those bands like Opeth and Dream Theatre will be considered "Oldschool"..Which is just a fuckin dumb term some fuckwad made up. Who cares, there are different generations and and each has their own definition of oldschool. quit being dicks about it

you kinda are being a dick; you're trying to put everyone else down simply because no one cares about being "old school", and you're also being a dick by assuming that since some of us are young, that we have a shitty taste in music. i'm 22 and i love many extreme bands/musicians old and new.

i'm sure you'll be seeing lots of "snatch" at the overkill show, but with the way you complain, i'd be willing to bet on it that couldn't get any to save your obviously worthless life.

1. When does talent matter in metal? Well, seeing that lack of talent lead to metalcore and nu metal that you supposedly hate so much, I would say that talent makes quite the difference.

2. Being a better musicians does make a difference. Better musicians are held back only by their creativity, not their lack of ability. That and a great musician is more deserving of my respect because I know that they dedicated a huge chunk of their life at getting better at their instrument.

3. Dream Theater might not do anything for you, but it does for me and lots of other people and I like quite the plenty of old school metal. You see, because YOU don't like it doesn't make it awesome or shitty songs, thats all OPINION, which is fine... And you alluded to something similar to that in a later post, however, you still act like your opinion is all that matters.

4. AC/DC has not been proven to be more entertaining than Opeth or Dream Theater, that is just your OPINION. Not FACT... Song writing is OPINION... lets make that clear.

5. This board hates old school? You serious? Because your 3rd or 20th thread about this show doesn't have a bunch of replies? Thats quite the general statement to make about a large body of people all because Overkill isn't loved by people on this board as much of you. If it was Diamond Head playing at Marks, you can bet I would be quite excited.

6. The "young metalheads" you refer to don't ignore old school, I don't get why the "old" metalheads... and I guess your like 26 or something so that doesn't exactly make you an old metalhead seeing that you were still in a stroller when most of these old metal bands you like were being pushed aside for Metallica's push into the mainstream... think that just because band X has been around for X amount of years it is instantly better than a more modern brand. That is ignorant thinking all around if you ask me.

You like what you like as you said, but the way you present your opinion is silly at times. I'm not trying to be a dick either, just giving you my opinion.

I think most of the people on this board can get too opinionated...... Which leads into bullshitting about other people, not supporting the scene and being pricks in general............

Hey Tom,

Been there and done that.... I've been on the scene for 18 years!! I've gone to so many shows... You'll never catch up.... When the scene was big years ago, I went to 2 to 3 shows a week!! Now, the scene is not even half the size. Plus, I'm busy with running our 5 stores (besides doing Candy Striper). I still make it out to shows here and there.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 28,2006 1:12am
if there aren't that many shows out there.. where the hell do I go all the time?
both of you have valid points so repeating them over and over is like this

toggletoggle post by CANDY STRIPER DEATH ORGY at Feb 28,2006 1:22am
My point is..... Too many bands sound the same these days. The music might be great.... but..... You'll have some dope screaming or grunting metalcore style vocals over it. The ruins it for me.........

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 28,2006 2:04am
eh, everythings already been done before and everythings the same if you step back far enough.
that doesn't mean you stop doing what you like and listening to want you like.
I mean, I could say, why does CSDO need a CD, I already own critial mass
or porphyria is 5 cannibal corpse riffs mix and repeat.
the argued term of "old school" that metalcoresucks brought up is simply a retarded argument (I'm guessing cause he went off anti-depresents which I'm for once suggesting he goes back on). EVERYONE is inflenced by someone before them. unless you are like gungadoo sandpeople who have never left your tent, you are influenced by musics before you.
if a band is "old school", what are the bands before that "older school"? "really old old school"?

I would have to say compared to "in the day" there are a million million million more different sounds out there to choose from. in my mind, "in the day" translates to "when all the bands sounded the same, but I liked it". today, you have so many fusion genres that genres are dying and forming everytime I open my mouth. Things evolve and if you don't keep you, you become and antique really fast. draw a line in the sand that you won't cross and you will find your audiences shrinking until your music becomes classical music. so far, you haven't done that. granted you are playing most of the same songs from the first time I saw you in the early 90's, but you play with other bands that have newer style and different people as their fans to get into your music and perhaps work that music into their life some how. won't you feel good if one of the neversaynever kid's fans goes out and buys a copy of critical mass after seeing you guys live?

the worst part about this thread is that everyone in this thread likes Overkill and there is still bitching. I for one am going to be at the show, enjoying all the bands and when the show is over, I'm putting the pictures in the other forum where there isn't all this retardedness.

I think it's important to get a little variations in sound/style/genres to fill out show. I've been to a few shows which all have 'similar' sound/style and I get bored after a while. As I told Eric last satuday, i'm still learnin how shit works at a local level, but we work hard promoting our shows, to build up a respectable reputation.

FYI: There have been a few NSN fans looking to attend a CSDO all ages show. Sooner or later it will happen, its only a matter of time and the getting the bands into the right venue. Maybe a compilation is in order to get other styles out to our fan base... ugh, that's another thread for another time.

toggletoggle post by Arthur_ATD   at Feb 28,2006 12:48pm
i gotta agree with mcmahon here, shows do need to have different styles on them. otherwise it all gets boring as fuck. CSDO personally.... i don't care for. but back to the point of the thread, overkill owns, but i don't think i'll be able to make it.

toggletoggle post by CANDY STRIPER DEATH ORGY at Feb 28,2006 1:12pm
