OK--who's fuckin' going?

Hopefully I'll redeem myself for not staying for their set 15 years ago at the Orpheum (with the flying seats, heard about THAT shit! good, that venue deserved it)

Hatebreed? No thanks. Arch Enemy, OK I'm sold--

I think Slayer arent that good. The whole satanism/atheism thing is really getting old.

toggletoggle post by litacore   at Sep 5,2003 2:56pm
I like their war songs rather

Yeah dude, slayer has no talent at all, they suck and singing about satan is played out. Are you fucking nuts?

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Sep 5,2003 4:48pm
i like slayer, but i don't listen to them much.

mainly the classics. divine intervention is my favorite album.

toggletoggle post by heartless   at Sep 5,2003 6:51pm
yeah cause since slayer basically copies other bands
and steals the idea of satanism from other bands out there,
you know they gotta be unoriginal.

Color me there

I never said they were unoriginal. Actually, I think they are very original. I just dont like the style and think the guitar solos suck (well at least the ones I heard). Also, I think they have plenty of talent. And the satanism/atheism thing. Dont you think it is strange that they come out with numerous albums with a satanism theme and then all of a sudden they come out with an atheism concept album? You do know that atheism not only means you dont believe in god, it also means you dont believe in satan. It means no religious beliefs what so ever. I am sorry for breaking some kind of rule by not liking slayer. I forget that free speech is a criminal offence...

Retzam, I hope that Kerry King beats you up for your "RETARDED" comment about the solos sucking. Kerry King and Jeff Hannaman kick ass. Your opinion on the solos blows. You have frredom to say what you want, I agree with you there......but.....dude.....it's fucking SLAYER we're talking about man!!!

toggletoggle post by retzam at Sep 7,2003 10:50pm
Well, I havnt heard a lot of their solos (and I am not insulting their guitar playing, because I really like the riffs they come up with), but the ones I have heard suck. For example, the solo from Spill The Blood. First of all it is not even in the same key as the rythym part for most of it. Second of all, the guitar is out of tune. Third of all, even if it was in the same key as the rythym part and it was in tune, it still would be unimpressive. But, if you could point me towards a Slayer song where the solo is really good, I will dl it and tell you what I think.

Try checking out Angel of Death! or anything from Devine Intervention.
Period.

I kind of agree with retzam a little bit... quite a few of their solo's are not that great, though some are cool (angel of death, ect)... a lot of their solo's don't have any dynamics or progression to them.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 8,2003 9:28am
I never really gave slayer points for technical mastery at the guitar.
they get points cause they were doing this shit in the early 1980's while a lot of other people were making crappy adamant/newwave/twotone music.
and they did it back then, influencing so many people to come after them. Are there tons of people in new bands that are a million times better shredders than slayer? yes. will they be classic like old school slayer? ask again in 20 years.

dude just do what I'm gonna do--hatebreed is a 40 minute beer recess, nothing more. Headloll to AE, ignore hatebreed and talk really really loud during their Oi-set, then come back and witness Slayer. Shame they couldn't have gotten someone brutal in the middle, though--

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Sep 8,2003 9:47am
go into the pit during hatebreed if you want something brutal in between arch enemy and slayer

umm...nah.

I'm definetly not a hatebreed fan these days, but they are definetly not oi...

Why the disrespect for them? ("talk really loud during their oi set") It's not like they are unaware who they are playing with (slayer, AE)...

Old hatebreed is fun to watch people get destroyed too, hahaha. As long as its not me!!!!!

Yea I downloaded Angel Of Death, and I have to say the solo definately fucking kicks ass! But, part of it , again, is in a different key than the music. I would like it better if it was just the solo and not the rythym part behind it. Fucking amazing none the less. But what I think is more amazing is that fucking high note Tom Araya screams out at the beginning! (that is a voice right? i guess it could be a guitar note merging with his voice, or a really good Halford type falsetto, but it sounded like he was just fucking screaming it out). Thanks for telling me about the song.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Sep 8,2003 5:40pm
By the way, what does OI stand for?

toggletoggle post by Joseph M. McNamara at Sep 8,2003 5:49pm
Oi is english street/ drinking punk rock
most of it pretty fun
big in the soccor hooligan rings

toggletoggle post by retzam at Sep 9,2003 8:16pm
Just checked, the aforementioned note is a high A#! That is insane! It is enough that he hits it but he holds it for a good 5 seconds without it breaking at all! Holy shit. Just for comparison, the highest note Robert Plant hit is a high F#. Dickenson hits a High A on the Scream at the beginning of Number Of The Beast, but for the most part he usually only gets up to G. But A#?! I salut Araya.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 9,2003 8:27pm
"Oi Oi Oi"

hey, check out the track tormentor if you want the falsetto.

toggletoggle post by moran   at Sep 9,2003 8:29pm
Check ou Seasons in the Abyss for an all around great Slayer song.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Sep 9,2003 10:04pm
Dude, Araya's falsetto is great. Come to think of it, I think he is using one to get that A# I was talking about. I couldnt tell because of how powerful it was. It reminds me a lot of Paul DiAnno's.
