New site? Maybe some day.
So I have been thinking, how can one go about making the metal scene stronger in our area? What has worked in other places? So far some of the things I have done has been to make mix cds with all types of metal for friends who are not into metal yet, must say I have converted quite a few. It just seems there are to few people who are passionate about the music to really get a good following around here.
I live in Southern NH and I must say there is no metal presence around here at all, plenty of metalheads and bands, but no shows, no cool bars that play metal music.
There is a park in my city that has an outdoor stage and if I ever get my band up and going I want to see if I can get some kind of metal show there, that would be awesome but I bet it would never work. The heaviest music played there is like jazz rock fussion hahah.
So what do you think needs to be done in New England to make a really strong metal community? |
go to as many shows as you can possibly go to. and stop trying to save the world. |
more promoters.
more event organizing |
i fucking hate these threads. |
nh has not scene cause there aren't places to play.
for "metal" you have some shows at the DBH, the spyder room, the muddy river and bigger ones at marks |
u guys should buy soundsystems n play in wharehouses like ravers do |
Y_Ddraig_Goch said: if I ever get my band up and going I want to see if I can get some kind of metal show there |
Otherwise, the hell with it. |

A lot! |

i think a scene needs a certain level of constistancy in organizers and bands who pull off good shows that give a crowd an itch to want to come back for more...
the venues rev mentioned put on decent shows if the right bands are there on the right night, i'd check them out. You will probably see one of us there.... |

Step one: Go to O'Brien's tomorrow.
After step one is completed we can talk some more. |
Sheesh, enough with these scene threads. Who fucking cares? Go see shows if you like the bands, and have a good time. Support the bands you want to support and stop worrying about it.
"Y Ddraig Goch" is a good song though. |
support the palladium doodz!!! |
lift weights! heavey, metal ones. |
drugs make metal stronger |
the answer is simple, three words all starting with the letter "p". give up?
its penis! AHAHAHAHAHAHA |
I think the most important thing would be to get rid of all the attitude that alot of the newer bands have. Nobody deserves anything, get over it. |
go to the fucking shows. how hard is that? |
notcommon said: the attitude. Nobody deserves anything, get over it. |
i dont think anyone here new or worse have attitudes, but it would be nice to see a lil less show begging |
you can make a stronger metal scene by shutting up |
fuck the palladium and fuck the scene!! i like metal always have always will and i give a fuck if i am the only one in the world that does,i don't need a group of like minded peers to feel good about myself and neither should you...jerkoff |
that palladium comment was a joke, jackass. |

it would be really weird to see a metal show at greely park. i live in hudson, NH; me and my friend joked about starting a really bad grind band and playing there, but it would never happen. |
NO CORE NO MOSH NO SCENE NO GIRLFRIEND |
notcommon said: I think the most important thing would be to get rid of all the attitude that alot of the newer bands have. Nobody deserves anything, get over it. |
Seriously...when I hear these douchebags with rockstar frontman syndrome bitching about how no one is moving it pisses me off. People have these illusions that they're going to be stars doing this shit.
Like Josh said, go to more shows, play shows, have fun, stop worrying. |
more testicles means more iron |
notcommon said: I think the most important thing would be to get rid of all the attitude that alot of the newer bands have. Nobody deserves anything, get over it. |
get rid of the attitude? attitude?! fuck you man! i deserve it, because without me the metal scene is nothing. i am about to say fuck all of you guys and take my shit to oregon. i will give you a chance to beg for forgiveness because i'm the fuckin man. |
that last one was me because im a pompous piece of shit |
I thought it was Terrance Herrera for a second.
this thread, and the other 10,000 just like it are stupid.
stop making threads about what is wrong with the scene, get a job and go to shows, buy merch from the bands that have it, the bands that dont, tell them to get some so you can buy it.
The answer is clear. Kick me out of the scene. |
I am in desperate need of a shower. |
I desperately want to make love to a schoolboy. |
see...we all have our problems. And we use these in the creation of our music, which promptly begins to suck, hence ruining the scene.
We're tearing it apart from the insides. What are you all going to do about it? |
Move to Germany. Because any place that births a band named "Shitfuckers Dick and The Burning Assholes" is the place for me. |
I knew that Germany was going to weasel it's way into this conversation soon enough...the funny part is that I'm totally not lying at all. |
That's Germany for you. If you don't join their party they'll come and get you. |
I don't care about saving the world I just want to see a few more good metal shows in good venues. I go to as many shows as I can afford, I buy as much merch as I can (I buy every cd I have on my computer).
I just think it sucks that we get a few good shows a year here, and other places (Germany bwhaha) get awesome shows every week.
I also think it sucks on how few metal bands we have around here, and half of them are some kind of Cannibal corpse tribute band with a kazoo player thrown in to mix it all up.
I say it's the jews' fault! |
seriously. My band is guilty. Our live set = playing "Cannibal Corpse-The Bleeding" album in its entirety with guitars on clean, air drums, my left testicled miced with distortion and flange added on the channel.
Oh, and our two vocalists read Maya Angelou poetry in the voice of Elmer Fudd, but they read different poems at the same time.
it's totally br00tal and tr00.
but honesty, I think you aren't really giving the local bands a shot, there's a lot more out there than you're giving credit. Yes there is some generic crap, but not all to say the least. |

Good question. But idk the answer.Ive tried to get chicks I work with to go to shows with me but none of them are into Metal.Lets face it,the USA is not a country where Metal is the first choice of music. So just get used to the scene being DEAD.Cause New England is not the only place in this country where Metal is dying.
metal is dying? tell that to hot topic. I hear they are doing good business is metal.
and the thing about greely park is hilarious. teach those fat cat's on concord st. what's what. |
REAL/Old School Metal is dying.I didnt mean NuMetal or Metalcore. That shit is for POSERS!!!! |
MetalcoreSUCKS said: REAL/Old School Metal is dying. |
i don't understand how music can be considered dead or dying. people keep complaining "metal is dying" "punk is dead" etc... as long as YOU listen to and love this music, as long as YOU support your favorite bands, the music isn't dead. forget about your scene, it doesn't mean a thing. your love for the music is all that matters. |
bands in NE are very clique like, just fall in with a clique, and play shows with them hahahaha. |
MetalcoreSUCKS: I guess you missed the fact that just about ever REAL and OLD SCHOOL metal band is reforming and touring. do me a favor, when you are at the overkill show, go up to bobby and tell him that metal's dying.
notcommon said: I think the most important thing would be to get rid of all the attitude that alot of the newer bands have. Nobody deserves anything, get over it. |
agreed. neither do the dickheads that think they are multi platinum recording artists and spew shit about bands trying to acheive the same goal they are, when they are in no better of a position than the new guys, they are all still garage bands playing for next to nobody in the same clubs. for the thousandth time, if everyone just worked together it would work so much smoother. but, again for the thousandth time, no one will bother and there will still be "how can the scene work better" threads until the end of time. |

Metal is not dead, it's just hibernating!!!!
Yea I haven't been to too many shows lately because most of it is stuff that doesn't reall intrest me at all, for one I am a metal purist, can't stand anything with the least tinge of -core in it, so anything like that I don't bother going to see live. Can anyone recommend any bands out there from around here that play live enough to see them within the year so far the only local bands I have been gifted with hearing are SoB, 3HM, and seed, all of which I liked. |

good post. scenes are gay.
if you haven't been to many shows, then you are part of the problem, not the solution. |
if you book a solid show, its not overpriced, and on a weekend night kids usually come out. my reccomendation to anyone who is getting sick of playing for 2 kids, book bands that have members in high school...they have lots of friends...friends with money who dont have to pay rent and buy gear. |

this is what is wrong with the scene.
find a band you like, and go to all their shows, buy their stuff, shut up.
Recommend some negroes, I am not just going to find them in a treasure chest like in Orcarina of time or something. And scenes are gay, I used the word for lack of a better. |
how can you expect a better "scene" when you wont help support it? so what if something has the word core in it? i agree that there are plenty of shitty ass bands out there that use the suffix -core, but that doesnt mean they are all bad. and remember there are many assholes who will label a band a certain genre simply because they dont like them, regardless of the actual style. take Sacreligion for example, we have been labeled as mall metal or nu core or whatever else has been said, but that is completely unfounded, usually that kind of hate is simply because one person didnt like it, and all the other people sucking his dick agree. if one were to take the time to actually listen, one would hear. if you just assume that you are going to hate something, or base your judgement off of someones opinion, then chances are you are going to hate it. try giving a broader spectrum of music a chance. |
Bill Cosby
Dave Chappelle
Danny Glover
Samuel L. Jackson
Don King
LL Cool J
Spike Lee
Morgan Freeman |
if you think the scene sucks and we get no good shows here at all, move to Kanasas and touch back with us in a month, see how many awesome tours are stoppin by on tuesday nights 5 hours away n whatnot. don't get me wrong, i think there is always room for improvement but thinking this place sucks is fucking retarded. |

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do this next time you play with us. A Terrible Night for a Curse is going to cover N.F.L. by Anthrax, but the vocals will be done in the style of Fred Schneider of the B-52's. It's gonna kick ass.

If we actually had the balls to go through with all the stupid ideas we got, we could take over the world...one special education student at a time. |
make it easier for people to set up diy shows. Cambridge is being really gay about that lately. |
diy shows require a room with electricity, bands, mapquest, and some balls. |
remember: norse in every orifice |
that also helps if possible |

brian_dc said: diy shows require a room with electricity, bands, mapquest, and some balls. |
well i got mapquest...now what |
count to 36 while imagining Carl Winslow doing a handstand while reciting the Communist Manifesto. |

done...i feel violated
SEE?! THIS DIDN'T HELP AT ALL! |

brick by brick I am bringing the scene down with my brand of utter nonsense. |

solve et coagula
*high five* |

more Obituary covers.
less..... everything else you people think is good. |
one time, I was listening to Obituary on my computer. It was so deadly that my computer broke on the spot...seriously, the second James Murphy bursted into a face melting solo, the fucking backlight just exploded. |
Carl winslow is the man, I wish he was in a death metal band. If I had photoshop I would be making a picture of it now. |

Harry from Harry and the Hendersons would make a good front man. in fact he kind of looks like the singer of Amon Amarth |

Good. When the idiots are dead, we can have a smaller but much better scene. Needing too much music means it's a product, anyway, and products are for tools and whores.
