My father's moving to florida on monday. He decided to drop everything and just go.

I don't like it here. I think I might go with him. How's the metal scene down there?

Good luck if u do decide to move there.Just be prepared to deal with hurricanes.Id much rather deal with the cold weather and snow than have to worry about getting my house wiped off the map from a hurricane.Plus I dont like the hot weather and would never move to FL.

Ft Lauderdale has a good metal crowd

Check out The Culture Room if your around there

Tampa has a lot of shows as well

Check out The Brass Mug and The State Theater for shows

When ever Cannibal Corpse plays in Florida it is a like a 3 day party because they do Tampa, Orlando, and Ft Lauderdale and tons of metal heads just hit all three gigs

There is a metal bar in Lauderdale that all the Florida death metal bands frequent called The Boars Head Saloon

I'll be in port charlet.

I lived there for about 2 years and some of my familly has been there for decades and no one's lost a house yet.

Plus I don't mind the hot weather, I used to live in new zealand and it got perdy hot... beats the shit out of snow IMO

If you move to Florida you should try out for Into the moat. They're from Ft Lauderdale and still looking for a bassist. Shit's pretty challenging to play.

Florida is cheap, and it can be enticing to a lot of people.

I know a ton of people that have moved to Florida for the lower insurance, rent, housing, etc.. Problem is, I only know 1 person who didn't move back, or is in the process of moving back.

Jobs are hard to find. You'll encounter much lower wages then you're used to around here, and you'll have a harder time getting one.

Get used to a cultural shift. Especially at work. You'll see a lot more foreigners or minorities like brazilians working with you or getting the jobs you want. Problem is, it's not like up here where they get hired because of affirmative action bullshit. Down there it's because they're the better workers. (as far as unskilled labor. If you've got a degree things are different)

Get used to hurricanes. You said your family has made it decades without losing a house. In New England houses last CENTURIES. If you look at florida, it's been an established colony almost as long as us, yet the houses are a lot newer down there. There's a reason for that: the old ones blew down already.

I myself considered florida pretty seriously for years. The idea of trading in a little 2 bedroom condo up here for the price of a 5 bedroom with garage, basement, pool, etc... down there was enticing. However, I'm glad I didn't. Here I am 3 years later, and those same houses are still on the market for less and less money. It's easy to go to florida, not as easy to leave.

P.S. - Ditto what Nash said, try out for into the moat.

I do not think jobs are hard to find in parts of Florida

Orlando has tons of employment opportunities. I guess it depends on where you go

I lived in different parts of Florida and it has its perks... Bars stay open a lot later and there is more stuff to do but when your out late in Florida all the creeps some out of the wood work hopped up on any drug you can think of

Degenerates everywhere down there
