Nope. Thats a real M4. If you look in the buttstock you'll see the buffer plug and buffer spring. The piece that he's holding is the bolt housing group. The bolt itself is shaped like a star for locking and ejecting the round. The hammer is visible in the lower receiver / trigger group housing. Yep, that's a real M4 alright. AND, it's completely harmeless as he has the weapon broken down and the bolt has been extracted. Without the bolt retaining pin in the bolt housing group, the firing pin will literally fall out.

He's also aligning the bolt housing group with the charging handle so that the bolt feeds into the upper receiver properly.

Had this been an airsoft M4, the hop-up dial would be visible through the open ejection port, and the charging handle is fixed and not removable.
