my friend got sirius. he's a howard stern junkie. every time i ride in the car with him, the metal channel (if that's what you want to call it) sounds like badly compressed mp3s and the sound of the cymbals makes my ears sick.

The metal channel doesn't really sound like that, perhaps it's just the car or the receiver? It sounds pretty decent in my dad's Jeep. But yeah, it can get obnoxiously core-ish...but hey, they play some awesome stuff every so often (Your best chances are during Ian Christie's hour thing...Sound of the Beast I think it's called? and Contact High [Stoner/doom metal]), or 90% of the times they say they're playing an "Original sin"

i listened to XM at my old job all day everyday for 2 1/2 years, I fucking loved it. They booted the more extreme metal station for some reason, not sure if you can listen to it online though, but they have a cool 80's station called Bone Yard that plays everything from Mercyful Fate to Priest to Slaughter to Onslaught to Axel Rudi Pell. My other favorite thing about XM is the comedy station, all uncensored, fucking great. The other stations were pretty sweet, there's something for everyone. I think it's impossible to not like XM.
I've heard several opinions about Sirius alot of people trashed the hell out of it and switched to XM but there are loyal Stern listeners who are willing to murder in defense of that shit. I worked with two different dudes who made the jump from Sirius to XM mainly because of programming, they still rave of XM from what I know. Who knows Sirius could have had a major turn around. Stern definately saved them, they're stock was in the shitter 2 years ago.
I'd vote for XM, they're the pioneers with this shit, I wouldn't mind getting it for a present.

yea i listened to xm at work for like a year. the punk channel (fungus 53) played some decent shit too

im definatley getting sirius in the next three weeks. the receiver im interested in is like a hundred bucks
