Let me be the first to say it.

Should've kept Cabrera.
Should have spent the extra buck on Pedro.
Should have traded Millar.
Should have traded Arroyo.
Matt Clement is a pussy.
Remlinger, and Jose Cruz Jr. were two of the most boneheaded aquisitions ever.
It shouldn't have taken half a season to unload Mark Belhorn.
Keith Foulke is a pussy.
I still respect Theo Epstein, but the guy had his head up his ass for this season.

a flawed season ends! considering all of that above, they did alright. obviously that isn't the aim of a season but...and the white sox, excluding game one, got a ton of fucking breaks in this *ahem* short series. once graffanino had the infield pop-up with one down and the bases loaded, i knew it was over. fuckin El Duque (sp?)...

We'll be set up really well for next year. The only regret I have is Rentawreck. That guy sure likes to end our fucking season... two years running!!

It sounds so cliche, but next year, we'll be much better. I'm a little sad that it's over, but I don't sting like I have in the past...

Papelbon is going to be outstanding. That's one thing we can salvage from this season.

In all honesty though, the Sox didn't deserve to be in the post season. It was a sloppy season, with sloppy trades, and a sloppy lineup.

And as much as it kills me to see the Sox lose I hope that all the Susie KnowNothing bandwagon jumpers (aka "Red Sox Nation") find another fad to talk about, and next season can be about baseball again. I can't even afford to goto a single game. But I never stop hearing about yuppie douchebags decked out in brand new Red Sox apparell going to games, and leaving in the 5th inning. Not to mention slophole vapid girls who prattle on about the red sox being their whole lives, when at the same time if you showed them a picture of Dwight Evans they'd think he was the guy from the Pringles logo.

the sox' downfall was definately their pitching, if clement can't get his control back they need to dump him, and search the free agent market. they can have Jaret Wright if they want. NY wont miss him

I'm predicting White Sox and Braves in the world series. And hopefully Braves to win, because John Smoltz is the man.

If management attempts to trade Manny this offseason they are fucking morons. For the past two months he's been carrying the team when it mattered most, that's more than you can say for Kevin "King Pole Smoker" Millar and his constant attention whoring. Seriously, Kevin Millar and Christian Fauria are my two least favorite boston athletes of all time, total douchebags without the talent to back up all the time they're in the spotlight.

Mueller is the most likely cut from next year, as theres been alot of talk about moving Youkilis up... Trot is never leaving, he's said in many interviews he will only play for Boston. Millar and Damon are grey areas... I see Millar as more likely for a cut though, as his numbers are down and John Olerud is the fucking man, but I guess we have a minor leaguer who's a center fielder and apparently has drawn alot of similarities to Damon...
whatever, with Papelbon and Hansen next year, we're good

Why would the Yankees replace a light swinging, aging center fielder with no arm with a light hitting, aging center fielder with no arm?

Free Agents for the Sox:

Damon, Millar, Mueller, Miller, Graffanino, Olderdude, Kapler, Timlin, and probably another guy or two in our usless bullpen. Our biggest free agent, though, is Theo Epstein...

The only way Manny will be traded is if it is to the Mets, and the only way that's happening is for Carlos Beltran, who wants out of New York. That's why Manny is looking for a new agent, to force a trade, and he's supposively going to go with Scott Boras, who is Beltran's agent, and who will try to force a trade that makes both of his clients happy. I don't really know how I feel about Beltran. He's got a lot of money left on his brand new contract, whereas Manny only has two years left. If the Mets through in a major prospect or something and maybe some money with it, I might go for it, but as much as I hate this "Manny being Manny" bullshit, I don't want to see him go.

But if that were to happen, I wouldn't be shocked. Beltran would go to center and win gold gloves, Damon would be gone, and we'd need to replace Manny in LF, and I could see Brian Giles being brought in for that. He's not a super slugger or anything like that, but I could see him and Beltran combining for the same amount of HR's and more RBI's than Manny and Damon did. Giles is a 25-30HR guy. Youkilis goes to third, and we can probably hire a retard with one leg and get more production from first base.

Our pitching rotation will be solid. Schilling will be much, much better. Papelbon will be a stud. Wakefield is Wakefield. Wells might retire, but even if he doesn't, we know what we have in him. Clement will be under contract, and hopefully he gets himself straightened out. He just wasn't the same after getting hit in the head, and that's expected. I say we bail on Arroyo while we can get something for him, hope Wells retired and go hard after AJ Burnett. We'll see...

i dunno bout keeping cabrera.........renteria did make a shitload of errors, but did hit a lot better than cabrera.

clement has a history of falling apart after the all star break. everyone knows it, unfortunatley we took a chance, and it blew up in our faces

remlinger and jose cruz jr were 2 of the most pointless things ive ever seen. espically remlinger since he flatt out fucking sucks.

foulkes problems should be addressed and taken care of before letting him come to the big club and blow costly games

manny has some kind of stipulation in his contract, the 5 and 10 thing(5 years with the same club,10years in the league) which gets you some kind of crap. im not going to pretend i know. he wont be back next year,i know that.

damon said he wont take a "hometown discount". so he will be looking for big bucks

we will go out this year and get a big name first baseman(bye millar). paul konerko is name thats been floated around.

i dont think billy mueller will be leaving, but goddamn id like to see Youkillis in the lineup(talk of him possibly at second,if not him than look for top prospect Hanley Ramirez to be there)

pitching is a cluster fuck. wells is damn near done. he may have another season left.

clement has to be able to pitch a whole fucking season, not just half

schilling just hasnt looked like the same guy after that off season surgery (he is also like 41-43)

papelbon will definatley be in the rotation. Craig Hansen, and Manny Delcarmen will also probably fit into the picture somewhere.

Cabrera would go 1 for 4, but that one hit was always a crucial, late inning hit. there's something more to the reason why we got rid of him. we'll probably never know.
Clement is planning on making a serious change in his mechanics and delivery. You can see him flinch when the batter makes contact, and his style leaves him wide open with little reaction time. He's acknowleged this, but couldn't start any mechanics changes in the middle of the season. hopefully he figures it out.

Don't know what will become of Foulke. the entire organization is pissed that he just took off, when Kapler, who can't even walk right now, was still there supporting his team after his season ended. Schilling all but admitted that it was Foulke who made those anonymous comments about him to the Herald. (that Schilling interview last week was one of the best i've heard all year.)

People forget that Schilling was said to need 18 months of recovery after his surgery. He had 5. What happens? He doesn't look the same and he hurts himself again. He simply shouldn't have played this year. He will look more like his true form next year, and by the summer will be the King again.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. I don't think he'll be 2004 Curt Schilling, but he'll still be a 20 game winner.

Clement didn't go to shit until after he got hit in the head... but he very well could NEVER be the same pitcher.

Manny is a 10/5 guy, which means he has the right to veto any trade.

Foulke wants to start. I don't see it happening, and I don't see him back in Boston. I just don't. He only has one year left on his contract so he shouldn't be TOO hard to trade...

toggletoggle post by xmikex NLI at Oct 8,2005 1:58pm
I love Bill Mueller. Youklis is probably the smart move to keep because he's younger. But Mueller is an outstanding 3rd baseman, a clutch hitter (the white sox series excluded), and a workhorse. I'd hate to see the guy go.

I can't fault Curt Shilling. The guy shouldn't even have been walking last October, and he went out and won us a world series. I've got total confidence in him next season.

Beltran, Konerko, and Ortiz in the same lineup with Schilling, Wells, Papelbon, and Wakefield as the starting rotation.... unstoppable. Steinbrenner would shit a brick if that ever happened. He'd build a fucking 8 foot tall robot and mount Ty Cobb's brain on it just to try to compete.

As far as the Cabrera - Renteria debate... Cabrera had better speed, better range, and a better attitude. The whole season Renteria just looked like a guy in a Red Sox uniform, not a real Red Sox member. If you take away the 20 something errors he made, especially the ones that directly cost us games that would probably give us the division, and would have changed the whole complexion of the post-season. Cabrera didn't have the same power that Reteria supposedly has, but is that really a priority in the same lineup as 2 40+ homerun hitters? He was a clutch hitter, a valuable base runner, and always had his head in the game. You can't say that about Renteria.

toggletoggle post by JayTUS at work in FL nli at Oct 8,2005 2:29pm
Am I the only one that doesn't feel this great since of loss that I've always felt when the Red Sox season ended? I mean, I am sad the season is over, but it doesn't sting the way it usually does....

I'd love to see the Sox keep Mueller, but I also want to see Youks get a chance. I think he's going to remind a lot of us of Mueller anyway.

Not only do we have Hanley as a prospect at SS, but we have this kid Dustin Pedroia at second who very well could start at second next year. He'll probably start the year off at Pawtucket since that's where he finished, but he's going to be awesome. We have so many prospects that I just can't wait to see...

yeah, i'm really not that bummed. i'm psyched about next year. i hope Timlin returns.

I liked Orlando Cabrera also. Something was definitely up in the clubhouse regarding him. Renteria, a player I find likeable, seems like such a doofus...

another random thought..I dug that fenway cheered Graffanino. I know I started that thread the other night but my anger wore off. He's solid, made a HUGE fucking error but I never got that "meant to be" feeling about them winning anyway.

as far as the cabrera-renteria debate. i must cabrera definatley had the heart, he wanted to stay here,he loved it here. i think it was just a big toss up in the end. he only hit like 250 something with the angels this year, but for all i know he could have been a three hundred hitter here.

If we trade Manny we're not going to get Beltran.
If we trade Manny we're most likely going to get Cameron and Floyd from the Mets (which is just as good, if not better) which would also mean we could lose Damon easily. If the trade does happen, it works out better for both teams anyway.... the Mets, a speedy team with pretty good power, get a 40+ HR, .300 avg guy to drive in people like Reyes and Beltran; and the Sox get a 30+ HR, .300 avg left fielder with a diesel arm and good accuracy, and a ~30 HR a season guy who strikes out every other at bat and is also an excellent fielder.
I like it, frankly.

yea..... nothing.

let's not forget pedro martinez throwing an old man to the ground a couple years back, who just so happened to be a former red sox manager

old men can't get thrown to the ground if they don't charge the mound. what should a pitcher do? uppercut him? run like a bitch? i'm sure NY fans would cry a bit worse over one of those reactions...

Clement didn't go to shit until after he got hit in the head... but he very well could NEVER be the same pitcher.

This is true. I don't think he will be the same.
Who was that guy that got his face caved in from a line drive, pitching for Boston years ago? He was lucky he could still see! I think he came back & in his 1st game, almost got hit by the same line drive! That's entertainment.

Tony Conigliaro also got a fastball in the eye way way back, i think right after his rookie season, ended his career a little early as well

The Canadians better hope and pray that Jose Theodore doesn't get hurt, because without him, they're just a crappy team with eight rookies...
