what an interesting place. It wasn't nearly as scary as everyone made me thing it was going to be. Granted, when I went in there, I was told not to take pictures of the crowd there or I might find my camera showed up my asshole. Advice that I heeded cause I really don't like things in there (and if I did I would have been at another capecod bar).

suspension of grace: I liked their sound, but they seemed wicked nervous. though from the "atmosphere" of that place, I don't blame them. I was trying to figure out their sound. There were parts that sounded like beyond the sixth seal-ish and other times that sounded like south shore metal.

manifest: not really my thing. I mean, they played and sounded good, but it was like tool-ish sounding metal with some parts closer to pantra and some more evil singing at other points. I'm not a fan of tool so it didn't work for me.

doppler effect: the first song I wasn't really into, but then their 2nd was better. But when I started to get into them, the owner said "you're done" and they got booted off stage. They were cut for having an "improv" sound. which is actually why I liked the 2nd song better.

13 winters: well, they sounded ok. I'm guessing they sound a lot better usually, but things were way too loud and over things you couldn't really hear. They are black metal with violins. I got the demo and I'll give it a listen as soon as I can. Oh yeah, they also got their set cut after 2 songs.

shroud of bereavement: damn, their set was awesome. The sound guy miked them up really well so it sounded so good. Before they went on, the owner came over and talked to me. the convo was so up my asshole. Advice that I heeded cause I really don't like things in there (and if I did I would have been at another capecod bar).

I hear these guys sound like ozzy... I like ted nugent, you know..." and then she told me how bands need to entertain not 'the headbanging' cause that's for 16-17 year olds. I guess they have all ages shows on sunday. anyhow, SoB played 3 songs and it sounded killer. Those guys should be huge. they sound like doom metal with a harder edge to it. It's just very different and everyone should go right now and DL their mp3s to test drive. They will play rttp at some point.

does joe from december wolves play guitar in SoB?

great job on the photos. your work is RAD.

anyhow...really neat place to boot bands after 2 songs because of their musical diversity. this place seems to be asking for the attention of a great white reunion before everyone got fired.

i know a few of the guys in two of the bands that played. their bands arent seeming to go anywhere, and playing a show like this doesnt help them. it hurts to have your set cut because the owner of a bar doent like you.

anyhow...if you can ever put doppler effect on a show, they wont dissapoint. amazing drummer. they need shows with bands sounding like them. and at venues worthy of playing. but what band doesnt? i believe their email addy is dopplermusic@hotmail.com.

thx for reidderating yourself lol.

do you remember what the owner looked like? for that time that i was there, i was getting water from the bar and 2 guys were back there, one was tall, kinda wide with grey hair and asked if i liked the bands playing, i said 'yes' (it was in my sorrow and every dying breath) to which he replied with 'that shit is fag rock.' im pretty sure the people in there are naturally angry.

"13 winters: well, they sounded ok. I'm guessing they sound a lot better usually,"

Man, we sucked! One of our guitarist couldn't make it and nothing went right for our show. We are an indipendant band, we run our own sound and lights. None of which they wouldn't allow at that place. We were burnt once before by a bad soundman and this will be the last. Normally, if there is someone running P.A., we have them just do the vocals and we do the rest. We have played enough to know what makes us sound good and there is no way some smuck who never heard us before knows what's best.
Mistake #1, he put mics on our drummer. There are only two things you will get from that, broken mics and hear no one else. It's not like this place is the Webster theater, there is no need of micing drums there.

Mistake #2 He refused to turn on one of our vocaddlefinger: Normally, if there is someone running P.A., we have them just do the vocals and we do the rest. We have played enough to know what makes us sound good and there is no way some smuck who never heard us before knows what's best.

Mistake #3 Constantly fucking with the levels like he's running a recording studio or something. The levels should have been set before we played and not touched after that.

The good side is that we got to meet the guys in Shroud and find out about Return to the pit.

Yeah, our set was cut. We played three and a half songs by the time they kicked us off. Hey they wanted metal and then got pissed because they got it.

I ask anyone who had the ml mics

I ask anyone who had the misfortune of seeing us last night to come to our show @ The Well in Portland July 20th. It's a lot better venue and we'll have the freedom to give you a better show.

blank Hey it's all good that you weren't a big fan of our set. Doesnt hurt me much. I wouldn't exactly say we sound like Tool though?! You're obviously not a Tool fan because you don't even know what they sound like... Is there such thing as someone who isn't a Tool fan? How can you not like Tool? Do you appreciate music at all? Dan

you guys are '13 winters' not cannibal corpse, they don't give a shit what a local non-headlining band sounds like.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 15,2003 5:26pm
um.. I know what tool sounds like. I've seen them twice 94 and 03. Their older tracks are ok, but the newer ones are my dad's music.

anyway, I can have my opinion and if you click on the pictures link, it looks like I took quite a few pictures of you guys so, in tom's words

i liked how this post started out like this guy was actually being mature and professional about it, then it got really defensive for no reason and turned into a post about Tool (again for no reason). Then it ended in a frustrated and condescending tone. Pretty hilarious.

Little tip guy: if you're gonna be in a band you've got to deal with other people's opinions. If in someone's opinion you sound like Tool then tough shit because you can't change their opinion. And furthermore there's alot worse things that can be said then "im not into this, it reminds me of tool". So consider yourself grateful that aaron was nice enough to state it politely that he thought your band sucked.

And tool sucks....and no i don't appreciate music at all. Thats why i listen to grindcore.

toggletoggle post by joe/notcommon   at Jul 16,2003 10:22pm
i remember after a show in east boston some cheesecore bands posted that bane of existence was the worst nu-metal band they had ever seen.

"you guys are '13 winters' not cannibal corpse, they don't give a shit what a local non-headlining band sounds like. "

See, we're not used to that. In Maine No one gives a shit what the LOCAL bands sound like while all the out-of-state bands get all the props.
The Skinny(when they were open) told me to my face they DO NOT book local bands unless they are signed and have little bands that kiss that band's ass to play out with them.

>you guys are '13 winters' not cannibal corpse,

cannibal corpse is boring as fuck. i would rather stay home and just listen to the cd then waste my money going to another one of their shows. i watched that live video clip on roys site and at least his band gets visual. i'm tired of going to shows just to watch another bunch of guys wearing band shirts and playing like they're in those bands or something. you have to do more than just stand there and jump around a few times to keep people interested. bands now a days need to get back what was lost in the 90s, originality. At least when you went to an 80s band show you were going to see some really cool shit and not a bunch of guys who look like they are still in the garage.
