someone please explain the ending of the movie to me why did the aliens all die , all at once? did not get it

they died cause...
they sent down the machines (no aliens).
when the aliens came down, they weren't immune to the bacteria around us. the bacteria basically killed them from the inside out. tey all had the same lack of immunity and they all came down around the same time, so they all died around the same time.

like nirgan freemen said, we paid for our immunity with 1000's of yeas of deaths

It was cool that they managed to save so much money on the aliens by cutting the feet off of the aliens from independence day and just gluing extension cords to the bottom.

It was cool to see that Mass Ave was left completely unscathed by the aliens, however the small rural towns were completely wiped out, obviously a good tactical move.

saw it last night, I was completely unaware about this movie until last night as well.

I thought it was pretty good, but was dissapointed when I asked what it was rated and my little brother said PG-13 so I was immediately skeptical about it being pussy. It wasn't really brutal enough, any movies about mass destruction of the earth should be gory and rated R!!!!!!!!! I know if I saw those things I'd be running around going "what the fuck?" "holy shit!"

There is the scene where the jet crashed over the house and when they go out and see it there's no bodies anywhere, but they show later on a bunch of bodies floating down a river. I'm assuming the machines picked up the dead bodies in the airplane, but still.

pretty good movie though.

just rented this on demand. i throughly enjoyed it. i was glued to the set through each scene. great destruction scenes, really cool alien design for their bodies/weaponry. is that really the truth about the aliens dying off from bacteria?? i'll buy it, but i'm surprised they couldn't take an extra 5 minutes to say that. could it have been more gory? yes. would speilberg do that? hell no, not a chance in hell.

my nitpicky complaints, yeah so they had the only car working, and it took them over a day to find a roadblock like that, bullshit, only in hollywood. cruise was good, but he's fucking tom cruise, he wasn't that convincing as a blue collar new yorker (though i did like that scene when he made sandwhices), especially when he's next to the mechanic and the hoodlums, but whatever. i did crack up a few times thinking about the whole sciencetology thing. what the fuck, tim robbins???

I thought this movie was absoutley horrible, the only good thing that this film had going for it was the special effects. I found the characters to have no dimension, and not very likable. The story seemed too rushed in parts. The script was poorly executed (from the same jackass that wrote the shitty Keanu Reeves movie Chain Reaction). The explanation of certain elements of the invasion failed to meet up to what was in the original 53 film. That and Tom Cruise can't act his way out of a nutsack.
