I'll be at the Middle East for the Doom Riders show. I was going to see if you wanted to meet up. Oh well. Did you get my message the other day? Great stuff! |
I'm like 20 minutes from somerville right now...
it wouldn't make sense for me to come all the way back there. |

20 min away and you're leaving now? eh? |
Porcupine Tree?
what the hell is that? |
I'm leaving for this in a few minutes. |
i'm on my way out the door for this. i'm so happy about porc tree being back in town. they're one of the only bands i still look forward to seeing. most of the other bands i listen to are on the decline. |
Their drummer is sick. I wish I was there. |
aaron called me a while ago..right before it started |
just got home!! FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!! |
that was one of the best shows i've ever been to. porc tree never disappoints. i think the guy who started the "90% OF BASS PLAYERS ARE PUSSIES" thread was there. i heard some kid talking to his friends saying edwin really pissed him off because he played the new songs with a pick. that kid should get over it because the show was excellent. |
ugh, just got in. great show |
I'l been home for 30 minutes...
but I'm working on my shitty shitty pictures. |
just got back from the awesome show.
how about that opening act, eh? |
free porcupines? tonight? |
that show was amazing. i still wish they would've played "wedding nails" from In Absentia, though...
that opening act, "tunnels"... they need to find new professions. talented musicians... but jesus christ, what the hell was that. ahhhh. |
playing fast, using weird time signature and wacky chords can only get you so far. what's the point if you spend hour practicing something that just sounds like crap? |
I was pretty tired and almost wasn't up for going to this show even though I had a ticket.
I went anyways! It was a bitch trying to find a parking spot, somerville sucks ass. I got to my seat which was orchestral left the back row sitting right next to the aisle. I lucked out on my seat because the dude next to me and the guy to my left in front of me had a huge pillar in front of them which supports mezzanine. I could see the entire stage luckily.
Sat down at like 8:10 and watched that pretty horrible band 'Tunnels'. I didn't mind the drummer/bass combo, but that guy with the mallet's who changed the effects every 3 seconds was obnoxious and I wanted to walk up on stage and push all his shit over.
PT finally came on around 9:30 or so. Played a lot of good shit, the guitars could have been a bit louder. Good times.
Overall I prefferred the Berklee Theater over this one, it was more comfortable, and was completely pitch black so all you could see was the stage. The sound was also light years better there. Plus having opeth as an opener was awesome as hell. Oh well though, this was still good. |

I missed this thread, so I'm bumping it.
I liked Tunnels a lot. I know what mikedogg means and everything, but I actually found the music very pleasurable to listen to (although I was the only person in my group of 5 people that went that thought this way). I loved those electronic vibes, haha, good trippy stuff that was, very (and easily percepted as overly-) progressive.
Porcupine Tree were great as usual. With a set that contained great PT classics like A Smart Kid, Even Less, Hatesong, Blackest Eyes, Trains, and Shesmovedon combined with the new shit they played: Deadwing, Shallow, Lazarus, Halo, and Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, which I think is Deadwing's best stuff they certainly did no wrong. Most rockin songs: Even Less, Blackest Eyes, Trains, Shesmovedon, Halo. Very great show. I even picked up one of the twentyfuckingfive dollar shirts. |
Shallow is a shitty song. Because of it, I will probably never get Deadwing. |
Shallow is a good song, you and Kevin are crazy. The album altogether is very very good. |
so I got there wicked early and dicked around the place for a while. there was not much going on down there since it had just rained and all. I got some pad thai, but there was an eggshell in there.. ew...
tunnels: I can totally understand everyones comments about them. I think they sum up my feelings about them too... I wasn't very much into them. the drummer+bass was decent. the xylaphone player had a whole midi thing for it on a back little computer.
porcupine tree: The last time I saw them was better. better movies in the back and a better selection of songs. Mostly that is the case cause I think their new album sounds like x tracks of the songs from abcentia that were just ok. The first 1/2 of their set let me down because of that. I thought they were just going to play the whole new CD or something. the last 1/2 was mostly "older" tracks. it made me very happy to hear all the abscentia songs they played. that CD is what got them to the point that they are at, IMHO... and I think they sort of made deadwing too fast, filling it up with would-be b-sides from the last. It was also wicked dark in there which made me (as a photography) sad. |

Don't judge Deadwing by Shallow. Try to get Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, it's awesome. |
