Yeah, because I'm in a metalcore band. All I know is that a lot of them are normal kids like us, some are into the same music we are, they just play the shit they want to play and get paid for it. Get over it. If you got a chance to get paid in a band for playing music with friends on tour you'd pass it up? you crazy basstid.

uh oh somebody forget to have his nap, too much time with Ken Susi i think lil lady.

uh no, but I don't understand what your issue with Ken is and why you(and others) think you are superior to people who don't play your music? Unearth aside, he's a pretty rad dude to hang out with and especially to work with. He was never a dick and cared about how our shit came out (always asking us if we liked it) rather than just passing it off "yep that sounds good, yep yep" if something sucks he'd tell you.

that an issue Ken, myself, Sean Martin and Dave from the Takeover know about, if you really wanna IM me i'll tell you about it.

aside from that i'm all for getting paid to tour with your friends and get paid to do it. and i dont feel superior towards him, i hate the resurgence of 80s glam that is most metalcore bands. i want the people that play the music i listen to actual feel what they're playing and play from their heart. this music is nothing more then the airspray that was 80s glam or the flannels that were 90grunge, or big baggie pants that was rapmetal/numetal garbage. something that is easily packaged and shipped out to the mass to consume. this is just my opinion of course, and hey i've been told i write on here just to read my thoughts. whatever you take it for, i dont care how nice of person these people are when they dont their music to me. it's suspect, if you listen to it or like it you're suspect. i'm gonna go be metal now and listen to coldplay.

another metalfest another shitty victory records sampler to play frisbee with.

I'll keep my reveiws to the bands I actually watched short and undescriptive.

Invocation of nehek: the upstairs was full so i had to listen from the steps. they sounded good from where i was. just as i go close to the door their 20 minutes was up.

Ion disonance: After 3 songs i was bored and went downstairs. that's it for upstairs.

Kylesa: they had some interesting guitar sounds but didn't care for it as a whole.

The esoteric: this band was better than i thought they would be. lots of chugs.

Nora : forced me outside to get food.

Premonitions of war: I would never buy their cd but they are good to see live. they had lots of energy.

All That Remains: This band has yet to disappoint at a show. i think Phil actually kept his shirt on but i could be wrong.

Throwdown: this band usually has a huge pit and lots of fights but not today. I saw about 3 songs of their set and it reminded me of why i don't like throwdown. maybe is missed the fights.

As I Lay Dying: judging from the way the crowd that was dead all day responded you would think it was a headliner. they played pretty well. Another band i would not buy the cd but i could see them at a show. I saw some fat kid getting pounded by a hot blonde girl during this set. Fat kid lost and was then thrown out. haha.

Obituary: Should have played for another hour. Awesome. Got some of the guitar players picks(aaron actually scooped em off the ground of the photopit). What kind of metal player uses white fender medium pics?

$20 parking: gay. took 30 minutes but i fund a spot on the street within 5 minute walk only to move to a cheap lot later on.

$6 Cap -n- Cokes: Gay. Tomorrow = Nips of jager tucked in the sneakers.

Handed out almost 200 compilations today(with the help of LOST DISCPLE RECORDS.....thanks again Rich and crew if you read this). I did not see a single one on the ground at all. I also met aaron and carina today as well. They seem very nice.

the day as a whole was pretty meh
i only watched/enjoyed about 5 or 6 bands...here are their stories

Invocation: solid set as always, i was suprised to see that many kids movin for them...they even had the token nu metal kids up front how knew their songs...that goes to show you those guys are making it
Ion Dissonance: AWESOME...kids went bananas for these guys, i was pleased
Minor Times: always a solid set, although i decided to take a break and head upto the balcony to peep the merch scene
*pizza break*
PREMONITIONS OF WAR: GOOD GOD YES. This band is sooo fucking sick with Nate on vocals. They played a good set, including my favorite premo song, "Citizen" to which Nate dedicated to yours truly. It only seemed like a few people dancing actually knew their songs.
All That Remains: BALCONY TIME...Around this time i was pooped and hit the balcony with Kris. Solid set as always,.
Throwdow: meh, but put on a good show
As I Lay Dying: meh
Obituary: good set, although i was so tired i left halfway through

Tomorrow will be much better

and now presenting the moor's fabulous day one review

buh ba bah!

ok so, invocation of nehek-aweswome
kylesa-a bit dissapointing, not as cool live as i'd thought they'd be
ion dissonance-SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET
minor times-were really tight and energetic, felt bad people werent moving for them
nora-nora is the same nora they always are
scurvy-yarrrrgh pirate hardcore be bitchin. except not that bitchin. they were alright.
haste the day-everyone thinks they're gay, i thought they'd played an awesome set and the 20 of us who were into them had a great time
premonitions of war-awesome
all that remains-freaking sweet these guys never ever play a bad show, played all the songs i wanted them to
throwdown-better live than on cd. still blow
as i lay dying-not as good of a set as last year, too much new/really old stuff. still a good job
obituary-hellllllll yeahsssssssssssssssssssss. floor was like empty for them, cause they're like the only metal band of the day. played a sweet set. no final thoughts though, i was saddened
unearth-played a great set as usual, said "lets go metalfest" about 900 times. oh well.
hatebreed-didn't stay. i'm tired and i've got 13 hours of metal to see tomorrow, so not worth it.

andddddddddd i got my wicked pissed compilation album. sweet!
and i finally (formally) met moe. also sweet.

i didn't talk to moe. i stuffed a comp in his face as though he needed one though.

josh gave aaron 5 comp cd's
one for me
one i gave to ibenez guitars don't know if any of the people on the CD use their stuff though
it was really nice to meet you josh!
i missed all the bands on the second stage and some of the ones on the first stage because I was busy doing a photo shoot for Ibanez guitars..the photo is gonna be a full page ad in a bunch of magazines...out in june i think, but i'll post more about that
they also gave me a sweet shirt but the smallest they had left was large so perhaps the rev will be sporting it

awwwwwww man. Fun times. I saw rev outside taking a pic of some kid covered in blood, and the funny thing is that my friend was the one that punched him in the face and broke his nose. Heh, loser.

Anyways, I'm tired as all hell, but basically, with honor and all that remains kicked ass, throwdown and as I lay dying were fun, obituary...well it's obituary of course they kicked ass, nearly fell asleep during unearth because I was so tired, and I left midway through hatebreed to indulge in chili dogs, which was awesome.

All in all a fun time, but tomorrow.....damn second stage here I come.

BTW: Line of the night. Adam from Cannae was walking outside during Hatebreed, and my friend asked him where he was off to. He starts laughing and says "I gotta go home, I'm too fucking drunk". He then kinda stumbled away with some people helping him around the corner. It was priceless.

mainstage
winter solstice: new singer? I didn't recognize him. they had plenty of people singing along. pretty good for a band who's CD just came out.

kylesa: they sounded absolutely awesome. I've seen them twice at AS220 and I was curious how they would pull it off on a big stage. they did it in spades.

esoteric: they were ok I just got their CD and haven't listened to it yet so I was left a little in the dark on their songs.

nora: carl came out in a hat and I had no idea what band they were. haven't they played just about ever metalfest?

since the flood: played most of their normal songs. mass people jumped up and brought up the mosh for them. Kev didn't disappoint oin the jumping front.

haste the day: I always lover seeing these guys. like underoath, they are a guilty pleasure. they played 2 new songs which sounded great, on par with the last CD. I even got a kiss blown to me.

premonitions of war: this was the first band who got the volume turned up to 11. that sort of sucked cause for all the following bands, you couldn't really hear much but a wall of noise. I was upstairs when they started... I saw a bald dude and nate.. and I thought I was missing the DwD reunion. nate sent a song out to blue!

all that remains: way tooo loud (12?). upstairs closed so this stage got too crowded (in the photo pit atleast I actually headbutted on of the bouncers). the crowd surfers kicked it up a notch. the singer of throwdown came out and sang with them too.
"it's good to be hom for a day" - phil

throwdown: the singer was in the audience an aweful lot. I'm sure that the kids loved this cause they responded but hopping on top of eah other. the singer of both ALID and ATR came out durring their set.

as i lay dying: they played a couple tracks off their new CD, comming out in june (14th). they ended with forever, whcih is their anthem.

obituary: (yes that is the same guitar player as in catastrophic, trevor pullin double duties) the one reason that most (non-hardcore) kids were at the show is right here. I know that this little metal kid's metal dreams were filled. Their set was broken into 4 parts,
1-> guitar solo -> 2 -> drum solo -> 3 -> encore.
that's right, 3rd from headlining and they still did an encore! why? cause they probably should have been headlining, but then you know all the kids there just to see hatebreed would have left. their set list was pretty short, but I got to hear all the tracks that I wanted, chopped in half, slowly we rot, threatening skies, and dying.

unearth: I was getting a bit sleepy by their set. I'm a UE fan, but I'm not a fan of getting water spat on me over and over again by kensusi (a name that I predict will get name-dropped into a single word kensusi by 2006). their set was really loud... like my ears hurt through ear plugs. I'm not sure about their set list, but some day, I want to see them do strings of consciousness cover to cover. I have seen something close to that since seeing them years and years ago.

hatebreed: you couldn't hear ANYTHING from their set. it was so loud and over blown. also, seeing their set was poisoned a bit for me cause there were 2+ guys in the photo pit who kept fighting and moshing, but security let them stay... and when they told them to leave finally, the guy stayed there anyways. one of them almost ripped carina's arm off and when I saw him getting close to her again, non-violent me actually kicked someone not only that, but someone who out weights me by a lot. go me. we ended up leaving the show cause of this.

wow leaving for day two in 30 minutes...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 23,2005 10:47am
secondstage
invocation of nehek: lots of hi's and love to me when I walked up in there. rob cyr was wearing a super old school porphyria shirt... that shits from way back in the '04' days! there were plenty of kids up here for them.

ion dissonance: well, I got knocked over right as I got in there. I had my camera in my hands and normally, I just raise it up, fall into some people and I'm still standing. but I slipped in between some people and headed towards the ground (with my hands in the air). at this point, my knight in moe armor grabbed me by my backpack and pulled me back up. thanks moe! they were pretty intense live. a lot of their antics on stage remind me of the end.

the minor times: so glad that I mosied up stairs a bit early from the estoic. these guys went on waaaay early. their stage presense is just awesome. no lights though this time. (they had lights last time I saw them).

scurvy: I got contacted a week or so ago from stuff magazine, asking me for scurvy pictures... anyhow, this is how a scurvy show should be. the last couple of ones I saw, people just stood around not doing anything... maybe one person dancing for their one breakdown... but this time there were people rolling over each other left and right. During "yo ho ho" there were even people head walking. it was quite the crazy scene.

catastrophic: oh to be the metal band on the "hardcore" stage on the "hardcore" day of metalfest... such is their fate. yeah, the guitar player from obituary was there playing too. there weren't too many people there.. I'd say it was a one-to-one thing with the # of photgs to people watching.

with honor: wow, kids went off for them. I was don in front at one point and there was just too much craziness going on to stay there. bunch of old tracks and new tracks. I'm sure there were plenty of kids that came just to see them since they haven't been around the area for a long time. perfect way to end a day on the second stage. this reminded me of years ago when american nightmare played.
