this is the worst thing i've ever heard

Independent label powerhouses Ferret Music, Prosthetic Records, Trustkill Records and Metal Blade Records, along with sponsors Music Choice, Revolver, PureVolume.com and Hot Topic have joined together with 18 of the hottest bands in the metal and hardcore scenes to present the Sounds of the Underground Tour 2005. The tour is scheduled to run June 25 through the end of July. The Sounds of the Underground will be an all-day event with music starting each day at noon and will be held in both indoor and outdoor venues in the U.S. and Canada.

Confirmed bands:

CLUTCH
POISON THE WELL
OPETH
UNEARTH
FROM AUTUMN TO ASHES
CHIMAIRA
NORMA JEAN
EVERY TIME I DIE
STRAPPING YOUNG LAD
THROWDOWN
HIGH ON FIRE
DEVIL DRIVER
ALL THAT REMAINS
A LIFE ONCE LOST

A special half-time performance will be made by GWAR mid-way thru the show. MADBALL and TERROR will be splitting the East and West portions of the tour. Regional appearances will be made by: THE RED CHORD (East Coast markets), FEAR BEFORE THE MARCH OF FLAMES (Midwest and Southeast markets), and HIMSA (Western markets) on the tour.

The Sounds of the Underground Tour is produced by Face the Music Touring booking agent Tim Borror, Ferret label executive/artist manager Paul Conroy, Ferret label owner Carl Severson and artist manager Larry Mazer. One of the concert organizers, Paul Conroy, concedes, "It was nearly two years ago to date when we were watching A LIFE ONCE LOST, EVERY TIME I DIE, UNEARTH and LAMB OF GOD play a VFW Hall in Suburban Philadelphia; there was something about the energy in that single show that made me a believer that these bands would grow to levels that would far exceed the VFW halls they were accustomed to playing. This tour will serve as an important vehicle in the continued development of 'organic' heavy music. Myself, Carl Severson, Tim Borror and fellow partner Larry Mazer are sincerely honored to have this opportunity to launch such a tour with its incredible group of bands."

Frontman Keith Buckley of EVERY TIME I DIE commented, "I can't imagine a tour that is so efficient in finding the pulse of American music. This has it all, and we are proud to be a part of it. Come and get your fix kids, this is great music for all of us bad people."

Trevor Phipps of UNEARTH lays it on the line: "This tour will show the masses that real music is alive and well. The Sounds of the Underground will prove that you don't need 'pop-culture' to embrace your sound and way of life. We are all excited as all hell to get this tour underway."

Sounds of the Underground will be the first festival tour for CLUTCH. Lead singer Neil Fallon commented, "I look forward to the catering tents and excited youth groups. Leave your styling gel at home. Marshall stacks and mag lights all the way around! Sign me up and give me all your drink tickets."

Ticket prices for Sounds of the Underground will be kept as cheap as possible; nearly all advance tickets will be under $30. Organizers of the tour are ticket price sensitive and will be sure to pass along info on how and where to beat overdone surcharges as well as offer advance tickets online before tickets go on sale to the public.

THIS IS THE GAYEST TOUR EVER! what the fuck man... seriously... tell me this is a joke. Norma Jean, Throwdown, Every Time I Die, Chimaira, Devil Driver, A Life Once Lost, Poison The Well... are all fucking TERRIBLE. why dont they just put Black My Heart and 13 Winters and make this the "kill yourself now" tour?
All That Remains and Unearth are slowly becoming terrible too. oh wait... i missed Clutch... fucking shit they suck. i hate this tour... this show is going to cost a fortune to go to as well. what the fuck, why couldnt they play with someone that doesnt totally bite ass?

toggletoggle post by retzam at Mar 7,2005 9:55pm
No, fucking shit, this is stupid, no matter what good bands there are. After all those shitty bands they throw in Opeth, SYL, HOF, and GWAR. It only makes the show more fucking ridiculous. I can't even believe this is happening.

If you see Opeth as a problem among the other bands then you suck at living.

i hate the thought of trying to enjoy my favorite band with a bunch of faggot metalcore kids moshing like idiots to it. i am so pissed about this. my favorite band and the four worst bands i have ever seen (unearth, FATA, poison the well, devildriver). i never miss opeth, so i guess i'll be at this fagfest.

i can see it now. some queer asking another queer what band is on and the second queer replying, "duh, i don't know. i think it is otep. let's jump up and down. duh"

toggletoggle post by retzam at Mar 7,2005 10:15pm
That was harsh. Really I'm just angry. This tour shouldn't happen and all of the bands who signed on to do it should burn in hell (the record labels and sponsors and promoters too, plus any venue that books them), no matter which ones people like and which ones people dislike. No one who would sign on to such a ridiculous tour deserves any respect.

Yeah i know, this tour makes me want to break stuff. Not just as an Opeth fan, as a music fan in general? There's so many things I want to say to so many people about this and it kills me that I'm not gonna get the chance to say them.

Yeah, fucking hell. All it does is create this stupid situation with the people who want to see the few good bands on the tour but don't want to deal with the shitty bands/people and the obviously inevitable ludicrous ticket price. Therefore, 75% of the people who end up shelling out the money to see this are going to be aggravated fans of either metal or hardcore that are going to want to kick aggravated fans of the other genre's asses. It's going to be a fucking stupid royal rumble with gay orgies all over the place with bands playing in the background.

They should be. Hell, EVERY BAND ON THIS TOUR SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF BEING ON THIS TOUR!! Wouldn't you think that even people in Throwdown would realize that this tour makes no sense? I mean, come the fuck on, XthrowXdownX is playing with High On Fire??? Are you serious? This is fucking shit. The selection of bands is mind-boggling.

Yeah, but in general, the two genres are incompatible. If you got really good bands from each genre, rather than pussy fake hardcore maybe it would work out. When has metal + hardcore ever equated to anything except metalcore and fighting?

Rttp doesn't organize shows that will draw a crowd made up of straight edge kids, stoners, prog death fans, metal fans in general, hardcore fans in general, and mallgoths. This show is a shitty idea and there is no way I can ever accept any reasoning that it isn't.

Clutch, Opeth, High on Fire, the Red Chord and Madball sounds pretty good to me and still much better then Ozzfest !

now explain to me how strapping young lad is good. hmm !

toggletoggle post by dan. at Mar 8,2005 4:18pm
well for one, devin townsend has a fucking awesome, insane voice. musically they do interesting shit, like shift from mid tempo melodic atmospheric stuff to heavy metal madness within the same songs. they also pull off the whole industrial-metal thing without being repetitive or boring or corny. their funny as fuck and hes a great songer writer. in addition to that, they are fucking awesome live. one of the most interesting bands i can think of. theyve been one of my favorite bands for a long time.

also, excellent use of a slide whistle.

toggletoggle post by whiskey_weed_and_women  at Mar 8,2005 4:20pm

i disagree with one part of your post. syl is corny, but that is part of what makes them great. devin townsend doesn't take himself as seriously as most of his fans do. everything else about your post is spot on. i understand why some people think opeth is boring, and that is part of the reason they shouldn't be on this tour. alot of the mainstream kids with short attention spans are going to be bored with opeth. i hope i don't see them get booed off the stage, but it would serve them right for being on a numetalcore tour.

toggletoggle post by dan. at Mar 8,2005 4:23pm
i wasnt really trying to convince you that strapping young lad is better than devin townsend band, you asked me how strapping young lad is good and that was my reply.

ahh yeah, i guess i meant corny as in "fear factory corny".

Yeah, I was thinking that with fans of all those bands, Opeth could get booed. But then I realized that Opeth is going to draw 80% of the crowd anyways. Like 'em or not it's true.

Also, I'd just like to say that i've warmed up to the idea of this tour a tiny bit. I know longer feel a great deal of genuine disgust towards it. I guess I kind of realized that there are people who are psyced about the whole show in general. I know one kid whose into Norma Jean, as well as Poison The Well, and even Throwdown, but he's digging the idea of seeing SYL and has never seen Opeth, who he thinks are amazing. Big GWAR fan too. There are people like this, and I think it's this small "i like all fucking music" percentage along with the large metal crowd that will discourage an otherwise larger than usual amount of idiocy, whether it be by "edge" kids, or hardcore fans, or anyone else.

I still think this tour is ludicrous by the way, I just am adapting to the idea I suppose.

i think this is a fine tour, yeah there is some bands that some people think"suck" or "blow" or "insert insult here". It goes both ways though. Im sure there are people who think the metal bands suck. I personally LIke both types. I will be psyched to see the red chord and Opeth, as well as poison the well and who ever else. Bringing the 2 together seems normal to me. It isnt like metal and techno. Both types of music have electric guitars and people screaming, wow that is pretty fucking similiar.
