Mr. Baseball! Though he only played in the majors for 2 seasons, it was his post-baseball playing years that endeared this funny character to us all.
Always one to wear a classy sports coat
(taken from Bob's 1982 autobiography, which I checked out of the prison library at the Suffolk County House of Corrections, great read)

He became known for his wacky stunts and commentaries on ABCs Wide World of Sports. But it was in 1985 that Bob's began his greatest feat, starring in a sit-com. Yes, who could forget Mr. Belvedere. Bob played George Owens, who gets into constant fights with his butler, Mr. Belvedere. What a great idea for an Odd Couple type situation.

Sadly canceled in 1990, that did not end Bob's acting career. In perhaps his funniest role ever, he starred in three of the Major League movies as hilarious baseball announcer Harry Doyle.

Harry Doyle's best on-screen moment was when he spilled a drink on his co-announcer and handed him a $5 bill and said "here, go buy yourself a new suit"

In 2000 Bob was finally given the recognition he deserved when he was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame.

Here's to you Bob. You must be in the front row.

up next, Whitman Mayo, a life in pictures
