toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Feb 16,2005 4:03pm
who knows, maybe it will bring awareness to someone enough to not buy a fur coat for their girlfriend. I don't know. video 3 and 4, where it shows it skinned and still alive...jeez.

I dont like to watch it but it still doent stop me from buying leather boots, belts, jackets, or eating lots and lots of meat.

I only watched number 3; that's all I needed to see.

I am so fucking pissed off right now.

Thanks for posting that RA; I had been casually involved with environmental groups on campus before, but that inspires me to waste a little less time every day and become more involved. I also feel like studying harder all of a sudden so I can succeed and get some power in the world and help to limit things like that happening.

I don't care what you think.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Feb 16,2005 10:18pm
i wouldn't voluntarily watch anything of that nature ever in a million years. i may be a carnivore and wear leather boots, but i can't believe how many tiny animals that do no harm to humans whatsoever have to be skinned to make 1 fucking fur coat for some dumbass uppity bitch.

at least with cows and other livestock animals, you can get food, clothing, and other accessories or whatever. that to me is just survival of the fittest...depending on the methods i suppose. but the fact that animals are abused, tortured and killed every single day ONLY for the sake of luxury, fashion and other superficial ideals makes me want to find every person who would ever even think of doing anything violent to an animal and skin THEM alive.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at Feb 17,2005 8:51am
yeah, yeah, it's terrible. but is this really how all animals are treated when they are harvested for meat or fur? Something tells me this isn't the way my hamburgers end up at burger king or the leather ends up on my shoes. This video looks a little out of the ordinary.

ps. they look delicious.

Wow…
Everyday the world becomes uglier and more grotesque to me. I don’t know why I watched any of the videos, temptation I suppose, but honestly, why are there sick, sadistic, bastards in this world that get off on hurting animals? I can’t imagine why anyone would feel the need to use unnecessary force against a defenseless, innocent animal, such as the ones portrayed in those videos. I’m certainly no vegetarian/vegan by any means, but what the hell!!! Why do people feel the need to torture furry creatures so that rich, snobby, socialites can wear the fur of the animal as a fashion statement?

There aren’t too many situations that enrage me as much as viewing videos like these ones. The abusive people in these videos should be viciously slaughtered, meat-hooked, and left to drain…

uhhhh. for money, retard. yeah it's terrible, but is the the guy in these videos really "getting off"? I don't think so. Looks to me like he's trying to make a buck and he doesn't give a shit if animals feel pain in the process.

That was a rhetorical question, “retard."

I know that people do it for money. However, there is absolutely no need to violently hurl the animal to the ground repetitiously or use unnecessary force to harm the animal. As a female, I suppose that it is only natural for me to feel compassion for other beings...

I don't want to be a preachy asshole but there is ridiculous cruelty in all aspects of animal based industries. If you think there wasn't torture involved in your leather boots or your hamburger you are kidding yourself. If anyone actually cares there are plenty of resources online to look into, including www.peta2.com. That's enough sensitive garbage for now though.

i've seen all the peta shit and know that there is an assload of cruelty, violence, etc. towards animals in every animal industry, but peta is the most negative company ever the way i look at it. they don't show anything good about any companies that deal with animals; it's basically using fear as a way to get people on their side. of course, i can't blame them because it gets their message across, just like a shitload of other people/organizations do. the fact that they show such imagery of animals that have been tortured, beaten, maimed, left for dead, living in their own filth, etc. is just as disgusting as the people who do things like that to animals.

this same instance goes for every company/profession in the world...you see a subway commercial, they badmouth mcdonalds. you see a mcdonalds commercial, they badmouth burger king. you hear about a bunch of kids setting fire to public buildings, churches, etc. on the news...but you hardly ever hear about kids doing community service for the hell of it or just doing random good deeds. you hear about what black guy did this to that white guy, but not "a local minority aided an old white woman across the street with her groceries today." these are just a few examples of how we all feed off of negativity, shock value, violence, and the like to formulate our views and opinions on such broad topics that really have a lot more to them than what we all see at face value.

just because peta shows pictures of abused dogs in puppy mills, cows with their necks snapped and struggling to live and all that jazz doesn't mean there aren't any big meat industries that raise their livestock in a reasonable manner and at least have the decency (if you can call it that) to kill them soundly.

don't get me wrong, i see what you're saying and i'm not starting shit or anything of that nature, i'm just speaking on the matter from what i've learned to expound on the discussion. i still think it's disgusting to know that there is a good percentage of the human population that doesn't give a shit about suffering unless it's happening to them. i'd rather be shot in the head a million times or poisoned to death than skinned alive and shown off for a bunch of sick redneck pieces of useless shit to laugh at.

There are definitely varying degrees of cruelty and what one person considers cruel may not be seen as cruel to another. However, you can be sure that if there is money to be made from animals, there will be cruelty as well. Businesses that deal with animals are just that, businesses. They make money by selling their products, animals. When people stop thinking of animals as living creatures and instead consider them in terms of profits and losses, there will be cruelty. I am speaking mostly of "factory farms" because an extremely large percentage of the meat and other animal products in this country come from them. I don't know about local farms, maybe they slaughter their animals in a nice way if you think such a thing is possible. As far as fur goes, the nature of the industry is cruel. The killing of animals for fur is usually conducted by bashing their heads in or anal electrocution so as to not damage the fur. I think that PETA has no choice but to show the horrible things that happen. You can tell people these things are happening a million times but to show them is to make them really understand. I don't think it's possible to describe the suffering that some animals go through so we can have fur, boots, and steaks so actually showing it is necessary. If there weren't groups such as PETA to investigate these things, I don't even want to imagine what else would be going on. Sorry for that ridiculously long-winded post but this is one of the only topics I feel very strongly about.

not as long winded as mine, haha; i can definitely see your point and i respect it as well. i guess my definition of cruelty to animals is the shit that peta exploits, as well as the millions of other circumstances unseen by cameras or eye witnesses.

i come from a very very boring farm town/area and i know many people who work at these farms. most of them are horsefarms, but some of the livestock farms in the area let cows and whathaveyou live a healthy life, then lop off their heads or break their necks, so death is instantaneous rather than drawn out and painful. that may seem cruel to others, but as far as i see it, there are much worse choices to be made. i also work for a restaurant food supplier that is very careful about where they get their meat; needless to say, there are definitely some cruel and unconventional aspects to at least 1 product we receive, but that's the luck of the draw.

in my eyes, it's survival of the fittest as i said in my first post on this thread. bears, lions, and all those scary creatures brutally tear apart their prey and eat every last bit of what can be ingested. even though the human mind is more "advanced" if you want to call it that, we still are part of the food chain and have to survive one way or another. some people kill their food differently than others, and it will always happen to our liking or disliking no matter what. s

ome of us may choose to survive on vegetables, fungus, soy and other earthen foods, and some of us choose to take a carnivorous/omnivorous approach. i have no problem with any views on this matter or one's choice of diet, just as long as it's not forced down my throat and preached about incessantly (which you have not done either of, so i thank you kind sir).

as far as fur goes, i'm against it. maybe it would be different if chincillas, minks, and other fluffy cuddly creatures were used for more than just "fashion" and not skinned alive or tortured. i say if you're going to kill something you might as well eat all that you can, make clothing and other garments with it's outer layer and do something else constructive with the bones. but that's just my opinion...i could go on and on about this, but i doubt many people want to read it, haha. it has been a lovely debate, but i gotta get some rest.
