We want something easy to leave in our practice space that maybe has a cd burner built in. Like a digital 8 track or whatever. Suggestions?

I found one in musicians friend for 399. No cd burner but you can hook it up to a computer. DP-01 Portastudio

it's portable and (since platform shoes came back) this will be envogue next year!

2 cassettes are key for copying yout demo!

Not bad. I'd be down for that.

if you're looking for a standalone unit, I recommend Tascam or Boss. Depends on how many tracks you want, and your budget. Get one with the CD burner built in, yeah.

well, i'm not really in need of tons of overdubbing. The most important thing is price obviously, then how many simultaneous tracks and the cd burner.

look into Boss BR-1180CD. 10 Tracks, CD-RW drive. Thousand bucks.

otherwise, go Fostex VF80EX, 8-trk., CDRW. $600.

yikes! 1000?! That thing must really do the trick , compared to the Boss br8 that is.

i have owned 3 of them, they fucking rock! i have the 18 track one now

hmm, if I ever go this route I'd prefer to get a new, dual processor Mac, Firewire interface, and either Logic or Digital Performer.

in the meantime, I'm happy with my analog Tascam, plus I can always burn the mixdown cassette to digital AIFFs.

burn a tape???? hmmmm, i wouldn't do that one man. unless you are just talking scratch tracks for ideas.

and a computer is a great way to go, but a bit expensive and too complex for being in a jam room imho

not a great method, I know. But that's what I did for the mp3s on our site (maybe once you hear 'em you'd see why they sound like doo-doo, hahaha!)

also, I don't have a proper pair of monitors, just my home component stereo

so basically my whole recording setup is Nymphomaniac Cavegirl in Dinosaur Hell Island

how many mics/line ins do you need at once?

most of those smaller all in one units only have a few XLR inputs. many of the cheapo 8 tracks have 2 xlr inputs thus limiting you to 2 mics you can still line in instruments providing you match the impedance.
