I've recently moved to Boston and I need to get another band going. Material already written but I need input from a good drummer to put the rest of my songs together that I've been working on up here. If you are interested in writing and playing original material which might compare to late Death with Jason Becker influences as well as taking inspiration from all other types of metal with subtle hints of jazz, blues, and occasionally funk, contact me by phone or AIM. Music is typically rather brutal but has it's melodic points (not in an at the gates or in flames clone way) you'll hear it for yourself. Looking to practice at least 3 times a week starting off, also intend to be gigging as soon as possible. Drummer: anything like Richard Christy, Gene Hoglan, or Sean Reinhart. If any or all of these are a main influence on you and you can sucessfully play some of their material, perfect. Bassist: doesn't need to know any theory, needs a very good ear and tight timing. If also capable of good various kinds of metal vocals or very good at one or two, perfect.

AIM: Daehtorom

Well...I'm an available drummer, but I don't think 'technicality' is the key to success. Been there, done that. EVERYONE EVERYONE EVERY-ONE is doing this neo-techni-jazz-a-Canderiod-metal-assault right now. Step back, simplify and making it fucking good (too many bands over look the being good part), and you're there.
Shit, maybe we will work out, I'm already offering input as requested. My influences are anything that's better than I am; from vomit-core to bluegrass.

I don't think it's the key to success either, feeling is the biggest thing in my writing. I'm not looking to do anything Dream Theater-esque. Since I have some drum parts already written it wouldn't be entirely nessicary for a drummer I'm looking for to have anything but the ability to play them, just touching all bases. Of course idealy that wouldn't be the case. What part of boston?

Reside: The creatched subburb of Manchester, NH (have rehearsal studio there).

Yes, I agree that if you're going to play drums, you should be able to play the drums. Many people think 'playing' is 400 tempo with nothing but blast beats and double bass. One of the fuckin heaviest bands to come out of Boston was Otis (RIP), not 'metal' persay, just a shit-ton wall of sound. They had a 'NO TOM DRUM' rule, and it was full enough to liquify bones! The drummer simply knew how to work the kick and snare. Similar things come to mind with ACDC and Rolling Stones. Bill Ward plays the same beat in every song, but it worked!

There definately is a difference between writing music, and playing music, especially with percussion. This is something that takes time and maturity as a player to realize; it did for me.

What's your background? Where did you move to Boston from? Any other groups previously?

my background... i was early influenced by the riffs of old metallica and slayer, got into death metal, solo guitarists like becker and uli jon roth, now i'm into all kinds of metal, death, black, jazz, doom, progressive, whatever. my biggest influences in the past few months have been death, king diamond, galactic, a perfect circle, jason becker, ulver, carcass... also into funk, blues, a small ammount of jazz. im finishing my 1st semester at berklee but i don't intend to go back because i don't think what they're teaching me is worth my money. i don't know any official theory aside from my keys and a few scales, most of my playing is by ear, muscle memory, and feeling. i haven't had a sucessful band experience yet, i had allot of material going with a couple people and i was dubbing as the drummer just to write shit as we were looking for a real drummer. i was in a band earlier but they had no promise and i didn't click with them. where do you have your set?

Manchester, NH, 45 min on good nights up 93 from Boston. My guitarist, Rob, is a H-U-G-E King Diamond fan; he flew all the way to Milwaukee to see the Halloween show a couple years back and was in the works to move to Sweden(?), to intern with the guitarist from K.D. at his recording studio but it didn't work out.
Rob was in Goldstein's Book (1998) (Fugazish Noise-Core), with me. The band went tits up as they do and he set up a solo recording/mix/mastering gig. We hooked back up a few months ago and things have been real cool.
I played in Strike 3 back (93-97), and we toured the US with Cave-In in the summer of 97, along with numerous N.E. shows at the time. Caleb (vox for S3), left us to join up with Cave-In to play bass, S3 went tits up.
Not sure what I'm looking to play, but I'll give anything a shot. I work for myself so my schedule is super flexible.

If you want to hear some of the material that's written and see if you think it can go places and/or put your own rythms to them I think that would be a good way to see if you're interested. My phone number is in the first post, not a busy schedule.
