According to Deicide drummer Steve Asheim, the new material will be "the heaviest, fastest shit Deicide has ever released. EPHEL DUATH'S "THE PAINTER'S PALETTE" TAKES METAL INTO THE NEXT STRATOSPHERE

Italian virtuosos Ephel Duath have completed the recording of their new album, "The Painter's Palette". In a cynical age where musical stagnation is king, with the bland leading the bland, a band like Ephel Duath shines like a beacon from the mire. Mainman Davide Tiso has assembled an astonishingly diverse set of musicians in order to add flesh to the bones of his vision. Taking a giant stride away from the band's black metal influences of old, Ephel Duath are now charting unexplored territories within the metal genre. A heady mix of jazz fusion, hardcore and progressive metal, The Painter's Palette delves into the jazz-terrorism of John Zorn, the technical outburts of Dillinger Escape Plan, the earnest hardcore wailing of Refused, and the rock mysticism of Tool, combining these influences into a radically new sonic vision. "The Painter's Palette" is set for release in June.

NAPALM DEATH: "NOISE FOR MUSIC'S SAKE" TRACKLISTING FINALIZED

Earache Records, in collaboration with Napalm Death, have finalized the tracklisting for "Noise For Music's Sake", the forthcoming 2-cd Napalm Death package, due to hit stores in June in the UK/Europe (July in the US). Disc One features all of Napalm Death's greatest "hits", from early classics "Scum" and "Suffer The Children", to later crushers "Diatribes" and "Breed To Breathe". Disc Two features a massive collection of bonus tracks, demos, live recordings, and other rare and unreleased material from throughout the band's career. Highlights include a live cover of Godflesh's "Avalanche Master Song"; two unreleased mixes of tracks from "Fear, Emptiness...Despair"; rare tracks from the "Pathological" and "North Atlantic Noise Attack" comps; and three live tracks dating back to the mid-80's, handpicked by Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury from his own personal collection -- one having been recorded on a hand-held recorder by Embury himself in '86 before he was in the band!

Each disc clocks in at over 75 minutes of music. Also look for exclusive interviews from both Embury and Napalm Death vocal assassin Mark "Barney" Greenaway in the liner notes. Fully endorsed by the band, "Noise For Music's Sake" will stand as the definitive Napalm Death bible for years to come.

SOCIETY 1: TOO SATANIC FOR RADIO

Following a massive Christian Right protest at a recent Society 1 show in Great Falls, Montana, several radio stations across the country have jumped on the anti-Society 1 bandwagon, refusing to play Society 1's latest single "Nothing" due to the Satanic image of the band. Society 1 frontman Matt Zane, who reportedly burned the protestors' pamphlets onstage at the Great Falls show, has characterized the radio stations' actions as "hilarious".

SOCIETY 1: CELEBRITY PHOTO SHOOT

Following closely in the footsteps of labelmates Usurper, Society 1 are the next band to be immortalized by legendary rock photographer Paul Natkin. Taking a few hours out of their hectic tour schedule, Society 1 will pose for Natkin this Saturday at his studio in Chicago. Society 1's last photo shoot saw the birth of frontman Matt Zane's "Lord Nexus" alter ego, so we can only imagine what this one will bring.

Over his 20-year career, Natkin has shot all the great rock and metal bands, from AC/DC to Guns N' Roses to ZZ Top. This is the guy who snapped the pic of Ozzy and Randy Rhoades that wound up on the cover of "Tribute"... now that's classic!
