what's your guys opinion on dancing at metal/grind shows?

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Oct 18,2004 7:04pm
slow dancing?

from another thread:

"Another thing that is kinda lame is metal kids don't fucking dance anymore! I'm not bashing anyone in particular but it's turned kinda pussy, hardly anyone goes off anymore at metal shows. Whatever happend to people fuckin destroying eachother? It use to happen at dying fetus, nile, and local bands like eternal suffering people killed eachother as well.. Nowadays metal kids just stand there and frown upon anyone that doesn't just bump into their friends. I know there are issues between the hardcore dancing and metal dancing though which I won't get into...Personally I don't dance, but I'll go off to my favorite bands most definetly, I would most likely get hurt in any other situation due to my size, but I see plenty of people who 'look' rough enough to pit the way it use to happen that just stand there. "

I agree with the tom's reprint, for the most part.

except I'm going to go one step further and say that dancing for the sake of dancing is awesome, and I always liked about basement shows how people will dance for nearly any band -- it makes you feel invited as a performer, and make you have fun regardless of how the music is as a member of the audience. That's not to say that the music shouldn't be good or that bad music should be danced to, but it is saying that if the audience shows more the performer will feel better about giving that extra 10% and the equation comes out nicer on both sides.

It's the difference between sleeping with someone who lies there, or sleeping with someone who bucks, moans, and says "do me, stallion".

I never realized head banging and punching people was called dancing??

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Oct 18,2004 8:08pm
i think dancing/moshing whatever you want to call it is fine at any show that has music to be "danced" to. i definitely don't see as much dancing at metal/grind shows as hardcore shows, and even most kids at hardcore/metalcore and other sub genre shows don't dance with the same energy as everyone used to. some do, but a lot of kids just skip back and forth from one end of the pit to another, with the occasional kick, head tilt and limp wrist flailing around in the air. seeing anyone dance is amusing and entertaining, all on certain levels though. kids that go all out with "dance moves" are cool to watch since they look like they're breakdancing and shit. the limpwristed dumbasses are hilarious to watch because they're just stupid looking, blah blah blah.

i think the only problem with dancing at shows is the occasional dick --or now multiple dicks i should say--that will purposely piss people off by kicking into the audience, crowdpunching, etc. obviously, if you go to a show and stand close to the pit you'll get hit, but when it's repeated intentional hits, that's just pure faggotry. and then, the second someone says something about it or hits back, the dick acts like he didn't do shit. old news, whatever. just adding to the thread...as for me, i don't dance because i'm a klutz with a shit knee, horrible balance and even worse coordination.

i got kicked in the back by some dick who thought it was cool to start breakdancing during a breakdown.

BRING BACK THE CIRCLE PIT!!!!!!!

toggletoggle post by eddie  at Oct 18,2004 8:21pm
i dunno, i've never been in an older styled pit you speak of. Personaly as long as the music is good, and i'm not getting killed by 50 people because i pushed the wrong person, i don't care.

Wait, I think I have a misconception as to what a circle pit is. I thought it was a pit in the shape of a circle...

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Oct 18,2004 8:35pm
a circle pit is when everyone just runs around in a big chaotic circle, sometimes with people running against the grain to make it interesting. so pretty much getting trampled by a tornado made of people. good times. i think 10% of this area knows what a real circle pit is...i think slayer shows are the only times you can really see circle pits around here for more than like 2 seconds, hah

toggletoggle post by retzam at Oct 18,2004 8:36pm
Oh ok, so it is when pretty much everone on the floor completely sprints all over the place, the bulk of which are going in the same direction?

toggletoggle post by tomx nli at Oct 18,2004 8:41pm
i heart to dance, and dance the hard

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Oct 18,2004 8:52pm
not really sprinting all over the place...more like everyone sprinting in the same general circle formation, but windmilling, pushing, kicking, flailing around, and other assorted movements happening within the moving circle.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Oct 18,2004 8:53pm
only 3 times in the last 4 years have i been able to start a circle pit... yes at slayer, at an MDC show, and at a Freeze show... thats it, that i can actually recall

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Oct 18,2004 8:57pm
i commend you. more people need to know the fine art of circle pits. even if i don't pit, i support the circle pit foundation of america. haha

toggletoggle post by Natasha at Oct 18,2004 9:45pm
dont dance if you dont have rhythm, and honeslty as much as i hate this new metal core fad, those kids rock the fuck out and support there bands, most are elitist fags in really tight pants, but minus that and the fights that need 50 people for back up,those gay fucking metalcore fags would tear up the metal kids anyday.....WE AS METAL FANS MUST CHANGE THAT,WE MUST DANCE AND DANCE HARD,AND PUT O's on our hands so we can all throw them up in the air and be like yeah, were elitist too!!!!!then we can be just as cool as them, and everyone will live happily ever after....and shit

toggletoggle post by Dissector   at Oct 18,2004 9:59pm
waltz it up, the pit is it.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Oct 18,2004 10:03pm edited Oct 18,2004 10:04pm
Hmmm ok, I understand then. If that is all there is to the circle pit definition then there was definitely one at the Lamb Of God show during Black Label (a big circle opened up a few times, but during black label it was very very violent and therefore meets your definition).

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Oct 18,2004 10:08pm
yes, there definitely was one for black label. as i said in the thread for that show, it was the closest thing to a real circle pit i've seen in these parts (aside from the aforementioned slayer shows)...it needed to go on longer, haha

toggletoggle post by coldnorthernvengeance  at Oct 18,2004 10:41pm
I only dance to Fintroll cd's

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Oct 18,2004 11:08pm
that's the only band anyone should dance to, especially when the folk parts kick in.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Oct 18,2004 11:12pm

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Oct 18,2004 11:19pm
i want to start a black metal band with ridiculously fast everything, but then add hardcore breakdowns and gang singalongs about the forest, winter, and darkness. we will all wear corpse paint in the style of sad panda bears.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at Oct 18,2004 11:20pm
we can add that into the grindcore band, hahahaha

toggletoggle post by Abbath at Oct 18,2004 11:27pm

thanks, you just wrote me a new song too

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Oct 18,2004 11:28pm
wooooo!!!! i've had this idea for a while. i was thinking of calling it "WABOR" but it doesn't sound black metal enough...it stands for "we're a bunch of retards"

toggletoggle post by tbone_r  at Oct 19,2004 1:05am
you need a gang vocals part where you just yell 'friends!!!'. the kids will love it

toggletoggle post by orgyM.F.....ilostmypassword at Oct 19,2004 1:21am
fuck man.....i don't care if fashioncore kids can dance and i can't....

dancing is for females, blacks, and homosexuals.......i am none of the above
(no that was not a racist, homophobic or sexist statement, and anyone who took it that way is a douchechugger)

toggletoggle post by sacreligion at Oct 19,2004 2:15am
we want to try to start a circle pit for our song wages of sin...there's a buildup in it that would be perfect to start one as long as there were enough willing people to do it
