wheee good times

toggletoggle post by tha rev at Oct 10,2004 11:26am
amazing show.
I took soooo many pictures.
I wish I could post them now.. maybe I could find a hotel with free cable internet... regardless, the pictures will be up monday night.

the crowd are crazy, but under control. I was in the pit most of the night taking pictures (since there was no photo-pit). I got to see a bunch of people from the site who were drunk and enjoying canada; goratory, josh, steph, el justin, neuraxis steven, and the kid from maine (who's sn escapes me while in canada right now). I guess there was multiple car loads of RTTP peeps up there.

during the show, people kept coming up to me and saying things in french.. I kept having to say "je ne parle pas francis" and then they would either switch over to english or just say "my english is bad".

This truly was an awesome experience.. maybe I'll hit more shows in canada more often.. I wonder if they have any huge fest up here.

paroxysm: I thought they were going to be hydro-grind (old cephalic) because of the singers shirt, but pretty much just straight up death metal. for some reason, the singer was bent over sort of backwards singing the whole time so it was hard to get shots of the singer.

bloodshot eye: this is that project that someone linked mp3s of a while ago. it was the one with randy from lamb of god on guest vocals. this time, they had some other person on guest vocals from some other band that jumped out during randy's part. the mp3s were more hardcore sounding. thiw was different, the girl's vocals are more death metal. in between the songs, the singer yelled out in french, convincing me.. but I guess she's not really canadian. the drummer was reading sheet music the whole set which I thought was weird.

the end: I wasn't sure how their dillinger-esque set. the crowd still went crazy for them and the deep-bass throbbing and guitar interludes in the songs gave the crowd a chance to smoke more weed. the stage right guitar player and the singer went crazy on the stage, but the bass player was the scariest cause he was swinging his bass inches over the crowd's heads. If they played any new songs, I don't know... the singer (even though the band is from toronto) was speaking mainly in french so I missed most of the things he said. having seen them a few times before, this was the longest set that I've seen them do.

cephalic carnage: guess what (josh?) the old bass player is back in the band. I guess a year out of the band was all he needed to jump back in. they were using the end's gear (cause they flew in from CO just for these couple shows). their set was awesome, as you would expect. they basically played all of the songs that they would normally do, some old some new. Zack, stage right guitar, had a sampler that he used to play the parts samples and weird noise before their songs. when they played analytical, ian from neuraxis came on stage and sang.. er.. well sort of sang. he most just screamed into the mic and then jumped into the crowd. They also did the mask thing again when they played black metal sabbath which is still cool to see live. For all those CC fans, they played 2 new songs which will be coming out on their next full length. one of which they sent out to GWB, but I forget it's title. I heard that a ton of touring will come after that. (haha, look at the bumfights sticker on the stage left guitarist.

cryptopsy: first their tour manager came out and talked in french.. none of which I understood (translation afterwards: the band is hang technical dificulties so to get you pumped up, here's the heavy metal comedian). then another guy comes out and speaks in french for a about 10 minutes. I didn't understand it, but I could understand the actions he did. he warmed up to crowd and "melt the metal" (transtation from carina).
first he had people move their necks into head banging. then had people shakes their hands in a sign of the horns. finally, he had the crowd do a death metal scream and a do-re-mi of metal screaming.
so cryptopsy's set starts... across the room there is a bunch of ceremonial pikes standing straight up in the air. the pikes are born by sheilded warriors. in front of them is a nosteratu character carrying a communion type box. behind them, 6 ghost figures carrying a coffin. they march through the crowd to the stage. when they get there, succubi hop on to the stage and remove the coffin lid. from the coffin raises lord worm. after a few french words, a longer version of the intro to none so vile, crown of horns starts. The crod started going nuts. I was standing in the crowd and it was very are to get any shots with my camera above my head. personally, I didn't get excited until slit your guts started. the beginning riffs were impecibly amazing. I think for the 3rd song, a old guitarist came out on stage and played for a few of the songs. During dead and dripping I was back behind flo wishing I had a video mode on my camera to capture the blur of his feet on his pedals. for phobophile, one of the succubi was on the keyboards in the back and played the beginning piano part.. Another surprise was Matrin (the last new singer on the 2002 tour) came out and sang lichmistress with lord worm. he came back out after that later on in the set.
None so vile came to an end and all the members got off the stage except flo. he went completely off on the drums. tons of flashing lights in synch with his drumming. after about 5 minutes, he slowed it down and it looked like it was over but then he brought it back and played for another 5 minutes. drum sticks were flying all over the place as he played. I swear in the last 2 minutes he went through a dozen or more sticks.
after 10 minutes of amazing drumming, the rest of the band came back on the stage and played a bunch of tracks. towards the end of their 1 1/2 hr set, lord worm picked up his chalice and ate a worm. then he started feeding worms to people in the audience. the singer for cephalic carnage came out too and ate a worm. I think the song before/during the worms was white worms, but I was too busy snapping pictures to pay attention.
I'm pretty sure that this set will go down in my memory banks in the top 10 of shows that I've ever been to.

everyone at the show was immensely polite. even when one of of cryptopsy's people told me to get off the stage, he was insanely polite about it. for the whole night I was mainly in the pit and on the edges of the pit shooting; yes, people would hit into me, but I never once really got pushed over and was never punched. the only person I wanted to beat the whole night was the dumb fuck who was behind me feeling up my chest (yes, I'm a guy) while I was trying to get across the pit during cryptopsy. dude, I'm a dude.

damn it, cryptopsy stole all the TTOS moves for 2005. Now we have to develop a whole new stage routine. FUCK.

I had an awesome time at the show, it was crazy. This show definitely will be one to go into the memory banks. I can't think of what to say about it, rev summed it up quite well. It's gonna be on dvd and all of us boston kids were right in the line of taping so that'll be cool to see and the cephalic merch guy told me i'd look good in one of their sports bars and gave me a free cephalic carnage sports bra. good times this weekend

unfucking believable. the energy in medley was unreal. once again BOSTON SUCKS. Montreal, the city of Metal, and where dreams come true.
quick recap. we left Natick somewhere around 8:30 and got to Montreal at 2:30. customs searched my trunk but there were no problems. we got dinner at St. Hubert's on the on St. Catherine street. Then we went to this bar where Suffocation, Behemoth, and Misery Index are playing at on Feburary 20th (wink wink) had some Tornade. Off to the show. Me and Adam scored a gram a piece of the best grass we've ever had in our lives. basically the first 3 bands we decent. it was metalcore for the most part. it's interesting to note that we were problably the only assholes in the club that rolled our eyes at this stuff. everyone else was into, not wicked into like cryptopsy but people were very tolerable and acceptable over 3 metalcore bands opening up the show. the sound was awesome at this place and it felt like a cross between old lupo's and the palladium. so cephalic hits the stage. me and adam roast a j (which was so dense we couldn't pull and was too sticky to break up) and we were all in awestruck by these fuckers tear it up. they dedicated CUNT to George Bush. they played Rehab. they did an awesome version of Black Metal Sabbath! they broke out black metal masks with wigs it was sick. the new material is good. so that was nearly worth the drive alone. ok so here comes crpytopsy. they had fucking curtains covering the stage. the tour manage came out then some other dude who was awesome (rev talked bout it good). the 2nd dude was warming up the crowd with a fundamental death metal sing along. so he walks off stage with us all chanting "CRYPTOPSY CRYPTOPSY CRYPTOPSY". 10 minutes go by and the house music comes back on, so we're all pissed. i looked in the back and I saw a video camera. a procession came down right in front of me with Lord Worm in a coffin (yes, i touched that shit) and they bring him onstage. this shit was giving me chills. so then they play None So Vile. shit guy. I sang every fucking song. Graves... was so fucking sick. Dead and Dripping was awesome as well as my favorite tune Benedictine Convulsions. they did an extended piano intro to phobophile. martin lacriox came out and sang with worm. I think they played either 3 or 4 songs as a 7 piece, not sure. after none so vile they played Defenstration which was killer and Flo did a drum solo for a bit. then they played COLD HATE WARM BLOOD and WE BLEED. Lord Worm makes the new stuff so much more brutal and death metal, it was awesome. They did a final encore of Back to the Worms.
I still can't get over this show. it was perfect. i couldn't have asked for anything better to happen there. martin and lord have some awesome stage chemistry, they move so well together, it's almost like they moved and sang identically. um the dude from Matyr was on 2nd guitar for them too.
afterwards we went to steve nueraxis' house for a party. cephalic was there and lenzig rolled up this fucking amazing tulip of a joint that had to be about a quarter or so of this amazing bud which did nothing but wow me the whole time we were there. we shot the shit with some dudes from poland. we talked in great length about how gay boston is and how much we envy Montreal and it's people.
the next day we just hung out basically. i bought a itty bitty bong. we got cocked in that metal bar for a few hours, lots of good times and fun pictures! me and adam both hurled after we toked cause the grass made our heads spin like wild, it was like 7th grade all over again. ride back was decent, rough stop and go traffic. didn't get searched at the border (thankfully) but the interogation was tougher. ascendancy played the compound last night and I felt the heavist depression, leaving the city of metal and coming back to this bullshit. oh well. blood is thicker than water. hail cryptopsy.

really sick show period. i would definately endure an even further trip if i knew there was going to be a show of that caliber on the other side. the reverend doesn't know me (he knows my friend mike) but it was cool seeing him there cause he's at all the shows around NE. the pit was cool and remained cool the entire time, it seemed the only reason to get out was exhaustion rather than injury. other than that everything has been said about why this show was so memorable, i only hope that the mortician vehemence show is as good. \m/

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Oct 12,2004 11:57am
oh one more thing...

when he was riling up the crowd...

and talknig about "heating up the metal"
he said the most important thing to remember was if someone falls on the floor....
stop..pick them up..and then continue to mosh and headbang...heh

it was really funny to hear real quebec french spoken .. my ears haven't heard that in quite some time
