i think less bells and whistles are the way to go... stick with a classic black background... remember the portfolio is to show off your work. make it user friendly and sleek. but the focus should be on ur pictures.
I am a asp and database programmer - I can do basic site design, advanced programming and database modelling.. with real business experience - I build intranet and extranets. But i'm not good with graphics. I have a list of some good graphic and web artists on my site. I tend to use them to help with the layout and backgrounds then I do the rest - then I don't update my site for ages. silly me- catch me on aim if there is anything I can help with (can't say I have alot of time to dedicate but I'm super helpful - ask anyone)
