How would you describe Cradle of Filth's sound? Some might say melodic black metal, symphonic black metal, goth metal....or some might just say they are the aural representation of faggotry at its most repulsive level; they make richard simmons look like he could kick your ass.
You can forget about all that with this demo. Back in 1992, Cradle of Filth played straight forward thrashy death metal slightly similar to perhaps late-80's era Sepultura or what Cannibal Corpse were playing around the same time. Dani Filth's vocals were sung entirely in death-growls - his now trademark ear splitting shreik is nowhere to be found here. Occassionally an eerie and very simple keyboard piece will accent certain songs to keep things interesting(ex. Graveyard by Moonlight) but certainly not as big an influence in the music as it would become some years later.
The production on this demo is extremely raw, and muddy; not too horrible though. Guitars and drums are mixed alright; vocals are a little muffled, and of course the bass is non existant - this aspect probably had Cradle of Filth as close to traditional black metal as they would ever get.
Whether you love Cradle of Filth or hate them with a passion, overall this is a very interesting album to listen to, and it's actually pretty decent if you don't mind the bad recording. It's certainly not worth the trouble of hunting it down and paying exorbitant prices for it; try to download it like I did.
