Here we have the latest album from Children of Bodom. It's still CoB, but at the same time, it's different. The production is a lot thicker, meatier, and darker. Some of the melodies have been substituted for chunkier, heavier guitar riffs. The keyboards, while still playing a major role in the sound, are also not as dominant as on previous albums. It's like CoB but with an ever so slight metalcore influence - which i'm not sure what to think of yet.
I have read mixed reviews of this album, some love the new musical direction, others feel CoB are selling out.
I understand that musicians and bands need to grow and progress in order to be successful; that rehashing the same album over and over again is useless and boring, but I think CoB's first 4 albums surpass this one. But hey, great bands put out not so great albums sometimes. Maybe it'll grow on me.
Check it out and decide for yourself.
