| Let's just put it this way, I've been a listener since their first album, and the only constant from song 1 on the self-titled debut is this: Paul keeps on getting better, while Tommy keeps getting worse. The guitar work is sick and lightning speed on 'Alaska,' while Tommy's wide range of vocal assault proves to be, well, not all that assaulting or versatile. (There's nothing new, no new tricks or patterns since their last album.) By my second full listen of the album, I had but only one explanation: this is a band that has tremendous talent, but doesn't have any fresh ideas. This album is just winging it, in my humble opinion. This album is very heavy on the power-metal exploration.. Which is both fun and refreshing, (and at times impressive) but these breakdowns pale in comparison to the orchestrations of 'Demons and Wizards.' or 'Dragonforce.' In conclusion, this is the kind of album that short-haired fashion-core kid you work with will use when trying to prove his knowledge of the latest in power-metal riffage. (His next banter will probably be something about how Bury your Dead were justified in egging Iron Maiden in San Bernadino.)

| I like it for the guitarwork and the drumming. I dunno, I think it was good they added the power metal influence instead of continuing down the breakdowns for days trend.

I'd have to disagree with the first review. I think this album is very good overall. There are a few parts that get midly boring, but as a whole I think the album is far better than the last album, and almost as good as their debut. If anything, I think "the silent circus" was their quote/unquote going through the motions album. There is a lot of great guitar work on the new record, and I think they took their own sound and polished it, making it even better than before. There were a lot of parts on the silent circus that were almost blatent ripoffs of The Red Chord and Opeth.
Also, the addition of Blake Richardson on drums, Dusty Waring on guitar, and especially Dan Briggs on bass, have made the band that much better. Paul's guitar work is amazing as usual, especially his solo in Selkies: The Endless Obsession, and Tommy's high screams and growls have gotten much better, as well as sticking with his old style, which is what works for the bands sound. I am very pleased with "Alaska" and I cant wait to see them play some of the new stuff live.

| Well, hold on a second... I think the main point here is that nothing so far has matched up to that self-titled album.. It was a true prog/metal masterpiece, and, sadly, this mediocre album 'Alaska' is going to be the one that pushes them into the mainstream. It's obvious that the growler is dynamite, but they need a powerhouse singer like Will Goodyear (old drummer) from the first album. Unless you're Mike Patton, you can't jump around that easily, and well, Tommy Rogers is great but he's no Mike Patton. Paul Waggoner is golden, only good things can come from him. Well, the other musicians don't matter anyway, if you know the history of this band, you'll be sure to expect Tommy and Paul to drop them by the end of the next tour.

| I like "Alaska" alot. Sadly, this cd will most likely push them into the main stream, but theyve been big for awhile now...so yeah. The damn guitar work on this is amazing. Paul has done nothing but get better every single release. The vocals are typical Tommy Rogers, but he take the keyboards to a new level on many of the tracks. Blake Richardson has come so far with drums. Dusty and Blake are very talented and this cd shows skills similar to their previous work on the Glass Casket full lenth, but the drumming and guitar work are far more developed and advanced. This cd is also very Prog, I hear alot of Rush influence in these songs, which is rad. Very Prog, Very tight.

| amazing, better than all of thier older stuff. i thought i read..blatant rip offs of the red chord? uhh...go shoot yourself in the shower.

| i have to completely diagree the new album is a band taking risks and moving out of that very narrow category of the tec metal core bands alaska has soo many dinamics the first cd does not it seems a fitting natural progression for the band and not to mention it does have brutal as shit breakdowns which i might add its not what makes a band but it dont hurt to have em'

| sucks. you're better off downloading final fantasy music clips and layering them over the new Red Chord album. they embarrass NC.

| I agree. Ninja str8-edge kids trying to plagiarize off of either Dream Theatre or Dragonforce fools no-one. Oh, except for a few kickboxing retards. Fucking weak....

| i think that this is one of there greatest cds ever and i think that it cant get any better i listened to this cd over and over and i never get over it i love all the guitar riffs and insane drumming the vocals cant get any better and the whole band overall is just insane but i think the best song ever made by them was more myself to kill but all bodies is just an insane song and im still trying to learn there riff after he says "we are just mortal souls left to die and then it sounds all happy that riff is to MASSIVE well overall its INSANE

| what the hell are you people talking about...stop searching into every so called flaw and listen to this cd...its friggin dastardly...they keep getting heavier...and this cd was very clean. no grunge

| It's ah-ight, but someone needs to tell that motherfucker on lead that arpeggios aren't solos!

| I agree with the third review, BTBAM definatly went more technical then their first album. In their self-titled Tommy showed off a lot of his singing talent and in their second cd "the silent circus" they showed more of a mathy side to BTBAM with powerful guitar and amazing vocals. Overall Tommy unlike every other band has a wide range and a unique scream that when you hear you automatically know its BTBAM. This album definatly showed a good side of their range and definatly is going away from your typical generic hardcore.

| this album fucking sucks.

| Tommy didn't sing on the first album, their first drummer, Will Goodyear did all the singing. Will now sings on a Foo Fighters sounding band in Raleigh.

| This is an awesome album, I am in a band, it hard to play that stuff , all you guys that said it sucks go crackerjack yourself in the foot and eat a donut
